The Tarentum Night Market, a monthly event that draws vendors, music and food trucks to the borough after-hours once a month, won’t happen this year.

The marketing team behind the event posted to social media late Tuesday that the 2026 season is canceled.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the Tarentum community for the outpouring of support,” the post said.

“We would have not been able to continue this event over the past few years.”

The team was not immediately available for comment.

The post cited scheduling conflicts and an approval process with the borough. Night Market has been unable to obtain the necessary permits and meet the required regulations in a timely manner for the start of the season, according to the post.

The borough does not organize the monthly event but supports it. A post on the borough’s website early Wednesday said it had not denied any permits.

“No permit application was submitted by the organizer, which is required for all public events to ensure safety and coordination,” Borough Manager Dwight Boddorf said. “Event permits are a routine part of borough operations and are regularly submitted by organizations, then discussed and approved or denied at council meetings.”

“The borough remains open to working with any organizer who completes the application process.”

Founded in 2020, the Night Market operated as a way to draw people to town after business hours.

The initiative encouraged people to shop along East Sixth Avenue and Corbet Street, where vendors set up booths and live music played. It was meant to shine a spotlight on the central business district and highlight the town.

Last year, Night Market made a big change and set up shop along First Avenue, which was blocked off to improve safety, organizers said. The change meant improved traffic flow and access to public restrooms at Riverview Memorial Park.

Prior years saw the partial closure of East Sixth and East Fifth avenues and Corbet Street, which created a traffic bottleneck and left shoppers without clear direction.

The new location was eyed to help the event grow.

Tuesday’s post said the market committee remains hopeful to resume the event next year.

Updates will be released on the market’s Facebook page.

The team thanked the vendors who have participated over the years.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to your enthusiastic participation in this community event year after year,” the post said. “Thank you for your understanding and we anticipate the possibility of hosting this event again next year.”
