RJ Hines cools off with his son Kolby at the Tarentum Spray Park in August.

After a slight setback, the countdown is on for the opening of Tarentum’s popular spray park.

The facility along First Avenue is scheduled to open May 30, a bit later than usual.

Manager Dwight Boddorf said the section typically opens on or near Memorial Day but was pushed back after a vehicle crash this spring damaged the fence.

Plans are pending a final inspection by the borough.

Because the fence is a specialty item, it has taken time to construct and be delivered. The replacement is expected to be installed Friday and inspected Tuesday.

The park draws visitors from the borough and beyond for its water features and green space. It is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

“We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure the park is safe, secure and ready for a fun summer season,” Boddorf said.

The extended weather forecast seems to be cooperating with the opening. The forecast predicts a string of 60-degree or warmer temperatures next week before climbing into the 70s on May 30.
