Teachers, substitutes, coaches appointed in Burrell

Burrell School Board made a bevy of personnel moves this week as it gears up for the first day of school Sept. 2.

Hirings include Vanessa Bauer, a middle school math teacher who will be paid $63,979; and Kayla Farrah, a high school nurse to be paid $48,447.

Nicholas Klukaszewski was hired as a health and physical education substitute; Devin Hwostow as an elementary/reading specialist substitute; Christopher Clark as a day-to-day substitute and Hanna Brenneman as a special education and elementary substitute.

Other positions include Katina Smith, 10-month secretary, paid $30,000; Michelle Napier, cafeteria substitute; and Terry McClain and Christopher Clark, substitute nurses.

The board also made appointments and reappointments for extracurriculars and athletics. In the band, Michael Pagnotta was appointed high school, middle school marching band and high school jazz director, paid $8,695; Alex Capsambellis, marching band assistant, $3,456; Nathan Snizasky, drumline/sectional instructor, Olivia Rogers, color guard, and Emily Rockwell, front ensemble, each paid $1,248.

In the athletic department, coaching appointments included: Justin Miller, seventh grade girls basketball and Shaun Reddick, eighth grade girls basketball, each paid $2,780; Faith Remich, high school cross country, $3,040; Sheldon Simmons, assistant football, $4,950; Joseph Virone, golf, $3,040; Andrew Kariotis, head boys soccer, $4,480; Brandon Daughtry, assistant boys soccer, $2,688; James Brandl, middle school girls soccer, $2,358; Frank Nesko, head girls soccer, $4,480; Brian Fitzgerald, assistant girls soccer, $2,688; Caitlynn Hirak, head girls tennis, $3,360; Kourtney Lehman, head girls volleyball, $3,680; and Allyson Shirey, assistant girls volleyball, $2,208.

Appointed as mentor teachers were Joseph Pham, Caitlin Lauer, Deanna Lott, Jeremy Diehl, Meaghan Volek, Kourtney Lehman and Kristy McCurdy, each to be paid $660. All appointments were unanimous.

The board voted 7-1 to allow Autumn Turk, director of curriculum and development, to attend three American Association for Superintendents conferences: from Oct. 5 to 7 in Denver; Oct. 8 to 10 in Washington, D.C., and Oct. 15 to 17 in Glendale, Ariz. The trips are grant-funded, Turk said.
