Annual 5K run/walk to raise funds for St. Margaret Foundation

The 36th annual St. Margaret Foundation Brian Demchak Hope Challenge will be May 12 to 18.

Participants will complete a virtual 5K at their convenience anytime from May 12 to 18 on their own outside, on a treadmill, dance floor or in a pool. Registration is required by April 19 to receive an event t-shirt.

The RIDC O’Hara Lunchtime Wellness Walk will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 14. For details, call 412-784-4205 or visit stmargaretfoundation.org/challenge. Proceeds benefit the foundation that provides medication, transportation and more to fill in the gaps for patients at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital.


Cabin Fever Reliever Raffle event to benefit HOPE Center

The Alle-Kiski HOPE Center Inc. will host its annual Cabin Fever Reliever raffle event from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 20 at the Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars, 894 Veterans Lane, Harrison.

There will be door prizes, a basket raffle and a cash bar. Tickets cost $15 each and include food, non-alcoholic beverages and a chance to win a door prize.

Wednesday: The Thrift Store Clothing Ministry at Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items are free, but donations will be accepted. Items available include clothing of all sizes, bedding and window items. Donations of clothing, shoes and boots welcome; must be laundered and free from smoke and pet hair. Wheelchair accessible. Tuesday : The PriorityCare program at Allegheny Valley Hospital will offer a free educational program about Medicare at 2 p.m. in the Charles W. Young Conference Center at the hospital, 1301 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights. Bruce Martindale, senior benefits consultant for Highmark, will be the speaker. Reservations required. Wednesday: Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will sell chances for a lottery ticket raffle from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the hospital main lobby, 1301 Carlisle St. The drawing will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Cost: $2 each. Cash or checks accepted. Proceeds will benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.

Wednesday: The Becky’s Closet community clothing store at Faith Lutheran Church, 1500 Broadview Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Cost: tops and bottoms for men and women, $50 cents; children’s clothing, 25 cents. Donations welcome during these hours. Everyone welcome.

Wednesday: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean clothing in all sizes is needed. No housewares or bedding please due to lack of space. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Wednesday: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who are not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
