Food donations sought by local Boy Scouts

Boy Scout Troop 186, Harrison, will leave hang tags on doorknobs in the Natrona Heights and Brackenridge this week and next as part of the annual Scouting for Food campaign of the Laurel Highlands Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

All food collected by the troop will be delivered to the Food Bank of Allegheny Valley Association of Churches in Natrona Heights for distribution to local needy families. To participate if you received a hang tag, please place non-perishable food items in bags and leave them outside your front door on April 26. Scouts will return between 7 and 8:30 p.m. April 26 to pick up donations.

Anyone who did not receive a hangtag and wishes to donate should visit avaoc.org/donate/ or call the Association of Churches at 724-226-0606. Thank you for your support.


Valley High to present ‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ online

The Valley High School Drama Department will stream its spring musical, “Peter and the Starcatcher,” online at 7 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at tickets.vhsdrama.org. When purchasing streaming access, you will be limited to one device per code, and can only view on the time and date purchased. Tickets will be available to purchase until show time each evening.

The show is a prequel to the traditional story of Peter Pan and tells how Peter, Captain Hook and all those in Neverland came to be.


Volunteers needed for Freeport cleanup

Freeport Renaissance Association is seeking volunteers to help with the cleanup of community gardens from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Meet at the HOPE Garden on Fifth Street and bring any tools you have available.

Garbage bags and beverages will be provided. Bring a friend.

Junior drama camp planned June 21 to 25

The Freeport Theatre Festival will sponsor a Junior Drama Camp for children age 8 to 12 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 21 to 25 on the festival grounds at the Steele Family Farm in Allegheny Township, off Route 356, two miles southeast of Freeport.

Cost is $200, and some scholarships are available. Instructors will include Knoch High School drama and language arts teacher Jennifer Bronder and retired Highlands High School teacher Tom Abbott.

Tickets on sale for Burrell Kennywood picnic

The Burrell School District annual picnic will be June 5 at Kennywood Park in West Mifflin.

For tickets, visit kennywood.com/burrell. Cost is $29 plus a $3 processing fee and taxes for a FunDay ticket. There will no in-person sales at the schools.

Alle-Kiski Music Day Camp scheduled for June 21-25

Alle-Kiski Music Day Camp will be June 21 to 25 at Center United Methodist Church, 1575 Donnellville Road, Fawn.

This nonprofit camp is for youths, 6 through 18, who will be separated into age groups, and includes chorus, hand bells, Orff, piano, jazz dance, teen ensemble, band, strings, drama and art. A closing concert will be June 25, pending covid-19 restrictions. No experience is required.
