Help with rent, utilities available to those in need

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Office of Community Services, is offering CARES Act funding through Allegheny Valley Association of Churches to county residents who need help with their rent or mortgage, utilities, household repairs, appliances, transportation, debt obligations or medical and dental care.

Arnold clean-up rescheduled for April 9

The community cleanup planned for today by Clockwise in Arnold is canceled and will be April 9.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon on the streets around the shop, 511 14th St. Volunteers are welcome and should meet at 9 a.m. at the shop.

Bring gloves and a rake if possible. Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and snacks and food will be served afterward.


Food pantry available in Harrison

The Natrona Community Pantry is in Natrona Community Park, 12-20 River Road, Harrison.

Anyone in need is welcome to visit. Donations are welcome. Suggested items include canned fruit and vegetables, spices, salt and pepper, tuna, cake mix, powdered milk and tea bags.


HOPE Center offers shelter for families and pets

The Alle-Kiski HOPE Center offers a Sheltering Animals and Families Together (SAF-T) Kennel to victims of domestic violence who are fleeing abuse with their pets.

The kennel allows families to bring their pets with them safely to an on-site kennel during their shelter stay.

All services are free and confidential. For information, call the center’s 24-hour hotline at 724-224-1266.


Armstrong museum seeks Civil War items

The Armstrong County Historical Museum and Genealogical Society Inc. in Kittanning is seeking Civil War and post war Grand Army of the Republic items that belonged to Armstrong County men who served in the war to add to its collection.

Your ancestor may have served in one of the following: artillery, cavalry or infantry units: 5th Artillery, 8th and 11th Pa. Reserves, 14th Cavalry, or the 62nd, 78th, 103rd, 139th or 155th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.

Free drive-in movie canceled

Hoagies are 14 inches and varieties are Italian, ham and Swiss, turkey, All-American, roast beef, smoked ham and cheddar, traditional, three cheese and ham club.
