Cleanup planned Saturday by students

Seniors from the New Kensington-Arnold School District will conduct a community cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in their cities.

Community members are welcome to join in. Volunteers will meet at the at Arnold Police Station, 601 Drey St., and work along the railroad tracks to the viaduct. Bring gloves, rakes and bags. The event is sponsored by the Arnold Redevelopment Authority.


Knead Community Café accepting donations

Knead Community Café, New Kensington, is accepting donations to help the daily operation of the café, 1011 Barnes St.

Items on the café’s wish list include three compartment Styrofoam hinged takeout containers, Styrofoam coffee cups with lids, Clorox wipes, disposable latex or nitrile gloves size large or extra-large, foil sheet wraps, instant iced tea mix with lemon and sugar, Tide or Gain laundry powdered detergent and Sam’s Club gift cards.

Donations are accepted during business hours 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.


Family movie series to feature, ‘Enchanted’

The free Allegheny County Family Drive-in Movie series planned Friday in Boyce Park wave pool parking lot will be, “Enchanted,” rated PG.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk. There is a 100-vehicle limit, first-come, first served. Gates will close when the movie starts, or the venue reaches capacity.

Movie audio is played through a radio transmitter on 87.9 FM.


Free clothing giveaway planned Saturday in Bell

Family Christian Church, 111 Truxall Road, Bell, will offer free clothing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Items will be available in a large variety of sizes, including shoes and coats.


Food pantry available in Harrison

The Natrona Community Pantry is in Natrona Community Park, 12-20 River Road, Harrison.

Anyone in need is welcome to visit. Donations are welcome. Suggested items include canned fruit and vegetables, spices, salt and pepper, tuna, cake mix, powdered milk and tea bags.

April 29: Zion United Methodist Church, Buffalo Township, will host a community blood drive from 1 to 7 p.m. April 29 in the church Family Life Center, 438 Bear Creek Road. Appointments recommended. Blood donations are tested for covid-19 antibodies. Bring and ID mask. Participating donors will be entered into a random drawing to win one of four pairs of lower bowl tickets to the May 8 Pittsburgh Penguin hockey game. Pull into the center parking lot and food will be placed into your vehicle. Those who are not yet registered should come from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50/50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Kiski Township

Thursday: Knead Community Café in New Kensington will hand out free grab-and-go dinners from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the café, 1011 Barnes St. This week’s meals are sponsored by The River - A Community Church. Those picking up meals are reminded to observe social distancing while waiting in line.

Thursday: New Kensington Eagles Auxiliary Bingo will be at 7 p.m. at the aerie, 2134 Freeport Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. The kitchen will be open with new selections. Social distancing will be observed, and masks are required except when eating. Public welcome. Details: 724-448-7403

Thursday: St. Gertrude Church will sell frozen meatballs and spaghetti sauce from 4 to 6 p.m. by curbside pickup at the church social hall, 303 Franklin Ave. Cost: sauce, $7 per quart; meatballs, six for $3. Please enter the driveway near Sandra Lynn’s Dance School and follow the arrows to the social hall door.
