Children welcome at free fishing derby

Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Jefferson will have its free Fishing Derby for kids 14 and younger from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 14 at Saxony Farm Estate, Addy Boy Lane, Jefferson.

Participants should bring a fishing rod. Concordia will provide bait and a limited number of fishing rods. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Hot dogs and refreshments will be available.

Luncheon to benefit Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley

The Hearts for Strays spring card party and luncheon to benefit Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley will be May 13 in the banquet room of the Lower Burrell Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road.

Doors open at 10 a.m., followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m. There will be a basket raffle, 50/50 raffle and door prizes.

Food distribution scheduled at Lernerville Speedway

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will host a drive-through food distribution for anyone in need from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway, 313 N. Pike Road, Buffalo Township.

Reservations are not required. A short registration process will be done onsite. Each household will need to complete an annual self-declaration of need form to receive food.

Guests should remain in their vehicles and open their door or trunk and will be served on a first come, first served basis.

Tuesday: St. Vladimir Church, 1610 Kenneth Ave., will sponsor a bingo night. Doors open at 6 p.m. There is a $1,000 jackpot game with a $500 consolation prize. Pierogi, snacks, drinks, daubers and extra packages will be sold. Admission: $25.

Bethel 

Thursday : The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crook Creek will offer a soap making class from 6 to 8 p.m. at the center, 142 Kerr Road. Each participant will make three bars of soap and choose their own color, scent and additive. Cost: $22. Reservations required: Reservations: armstrongodc.org.

Frazer

Saturday : The New Kensington Camera Club and Focus on the Arts Gallery will offer a free workshop, “Macro Photography,” from 1 to 4 p.m. in suite 208 at Pittsburgh Mills Mall. Lower Burrell   

Tuesday: Author George Guido will discuss his book, “Neighborhoods of the Alle-Kiski Valley,” at 6:30 p.m. at Peoples Library, 3052 Wachter Ave. Details: 724-339-1021, ext. 12.

Oct. 22: New Kensington Moose is accepting table reservations for a fall craft and vendor show planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the lodge, 499 Reimer St. Spaces limited to one representative from each company on a first come, first served basis. New Kensington  

Tuesday and Saturday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., will be open from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Items available include clothing for all members of the family, shoes and linens. First-time customers receive 15 free items. Summer clothing donations welcome during business hours.
