St. Joseph students to present ‘Tarzan, the Musical’

The drama department at St. Joseph High School, Harrison, will present its spring musical “Tarzan, the Musical,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at Freeport Area High School, 625 S. Pike Road, Buffalo Township.

Movies in the Parks series to open for the season

The free Drive-In Movies in the Parks program sponsored by the Allegheny County Parks Department will present “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” at dusk Saturday at Hartwood Acres Amphitheater, 4000 Middle Road, Indiana Township.

Gates open at 7 p.m. The movie is rated PG and guests are welcome to bring their own snacks and drinks. Tune your car radio to 87.9 FM for sound.

Free workshop about trees offered at Outdoor Discovery Center

The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek will host a free Celebrate the Trees family workshop from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the center, 142 Kerr Road, Bethel Township.

Tree Pittsburgh will present its Meet a Tree program to explain the values and benefits of trees. Each family will receive a free tree seedling to take home and plant.

Fishing event planned for children in Parks Township

Parks Township Sportsmen Club will host its 16th annual free Kids Fishing Day from 10 a.m. to noon May 4 at the club, 1111 Shipman Road, off Hungry Hollow Road in the township, rain or shine.

Children 15 years old and younger who are accompanied by a parent or guardian are welcome. There will be prizes and refreshments will be served.

North Apollo

May 4: Freeport International Baseball Invitational will sponsor a cornhole tournament fundraiser at 5 p.m. at South Buffalo Volunteer Firehall, 100 Firehall Road. Doors open at 4 p.m. Entry fee: $50 per team, includes food and beverages. Must be 21. Cash prizes will be awarded for first- and second-place, and there will be a basket raffle and 50-50. Springdale

Today: Lower Valley Community Food Bank will distribute food from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday from the rear entrance of the Springdale borough building, 325 School St. Do not arrive before 12:45 p.m. Anyone in need of food who lives in Springdale, Springdale Township, Cheswick, Harmar and the sections of Indiana Township and West Deer with a zip code of 15024 is welcome. New recipients can register Thursday.

Today: The diaper pantry at St. Mark Lutheran Church will distribute free diapers from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church, 600 Pittsburgh St. Recipients must register in advance. First-time recipients must provide their own ID, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card. Distributions are the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Saturday: Lower Valley Little League will have its opening day celebration at Lampus Field, Ruth Alley, weather permitting. An opening day ceremony will be at 10:45 a.m. and food and drinks will be sold. Games will begin at 11 a.m. and there will be a touch-a-truck from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors and games will be available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and there will be live music from 1 to 6 p.m. Public welcome with no admission fee.
