Vendor spaces available for Flea-tique season

The Alle-Kiski Valley Historical Society’s Flea-tique will begin the season May 19 at the Bull Creek Tour-Ed Mine site, off Bull Creek Road, Route 28, exit 14 in Fawn.

Flea-tiques will run through October on the third Sunday of the month, rain or shine. Vendors deal only in antiques and collectibles. Spaces are 24 feet by 20 feet and cost $30 per month or $150 per season, reflecting one free month. The hours are dawn to 1 p.m.

Reservations with checks made out to AKVHS can be mailed to 224 E. Seventh Ave., Tarentum PA 15084. For details, call 724-224-0178 or email fleatique82@gmail.com. Proceeds benefit the society’s Heritage Museum and the Tour-Ed Mine Museum.


Volunteers, household donations welcome for Hospitality Homes

The Hospitality Homes division of Allegheny Valley Association of Churches provides housing to families and individuals who have a disability and are experiencing homelessness.

Volunteers are needed to mow and trim grass in one or two yards every week to 10 days. Items needed include outdoor and kitchen-size trash cans, trash bags kitchen-size and larger, dish detergent, laundry detergent and gently used or new vacuum cleaners.

Donations are accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 weekdays at the center, 1913 Freeport Road, Harrison. For information, call 724-226-0606, ext. 10 or email kathi@avaoc.org.

Thursday: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Freeport

Wednesdays: The Thrift Store Clothing Ministry at Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items are free, but donations will be accepted. Items available include clothing of all sizes, bedding and window items. Donations of clothing, shoes and boots welcome; must be laundered and free from smoke and pet hair. Wheelchair accessible. Thursday: Freeport Renaissance Association will meet at 7 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church, 411 High St. New members welcome.

Gilpin

Thursday: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7:15 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

Harrison  

Today: Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host a jewelry sale by Designs by Linda Litterio from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hospital lobby, 1301 Carlisle St. Cost: necklaces, $10; stretch bracelets and earrings, $5; or combination of five, $20. Cash and checks accepted. Proceeds will benefit auxiliary projects.

Today: Community Library of Allegheny Valley will host two children’s programs by the Allegheny Land Trust. “Soil Scientists” for children age 4 to 6 will be from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Children will learn what makes soil special and how long it takes nature to make soil. “Lollipop Lab” for children in third through fifth grade will be at 5 p.m. Students will learn how the ingredients in lollipops are harvested from plants and create a new lollipop flavor. Wednesday: The Becky’s Closet community clothing store at Faith Lutheran Church, 1500 Broadview Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Cost: tops and bottoms for men and women, $50 cents; children’s clothing, 25 cents. Donations welcome during these hours. Everyone welcome.

Wednesday: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean clothing in all sizes is needed. No housewares or bedding please due to lack of space. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Wednesday: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who are not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
