Car seat loaner program provides free seats, installation

Oklahoma/Vandergrift Emergency Medical Services has a free car seat loaner program available to residents.

A variety of sizes and styles are available and a certified child passenger safety technician is available to install the seat.

Shoe collection underway at Avonmore church

First Presbyterian Church of Avonmore, 518 Indiana Ave., is collecting gently used and new shoes through July 1 for the Latrobe Area Hospital Aid Society.

Collected shoes are used to support micro-enterprise vendors in developing nations. Pairs of shoes should be tied together with the laces or rubber bands and placed into a garbage bag. Do not bring shoes in boxes.

Children encouraged to enter bookmark design contest

Vandergrift Public Library is sponsoring a bookmark design contest for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Bookmarks should be an original creation. Winners will receive a free book and have their bookmark reproduced for distribution at the library. The submission deadline is April 24. For complete design details and an entry form, visit vandergriftpubliclibrary.org.

Today: East Kensington Community Circle will host bingo in the Community Circle building, 1785 Seventh St., across from Martin Elementary School. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon and bingo starts at 1 p.m. Menu: ham salad sandwiches, macaroni salad and dessert.
