Drive-by birthday party planned Saturday in Allegheny Township
Shrine Clowns, miniature Model Ts, police cars and fire trucks will all participate in a surprise drive-by birthday parade and party from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday for Kohldon Haggerty of Allegheny Township.
His mom, Erin Wagner-Haggerty asked the Pittsburgh Shrine if they could send some clowns and they are responding with not only clowns, but some motorized Shriners. Local police and fire departments are also expected to attend.
Kohldon will be turning seven years old and this would have been his third consecutive birthday party that would have been canceled due to illness and now the quarantine.
Friends, family and anyone who would like to wish him well are welcome decorate their cars, make signs and drive by his home at 4300 Waco Drive in Allegheny Township.
Leechburg Rotary changes scholarship application deadline
The deadline for submitting completed applications for the Leechburg Rotary scholarships has been changed to April 15.
The club will award four $1,000 community service scholarships to students living within the Leechburg and Kiski Area school districts who excel in community volunteerism and plan to further their postsecondary education.
Applications may be obtained from at the Rotary website, leechburgrotary.org and returned to Bob DiCola, 146 Market St., Leechburg, PA 15656.
Knead Community Café offers free Easter grab and go meals
Knead Community Café, 1011 Barnes St., New Kensington, will serve free grab and go meals from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today, or until the food runs out, at the front gate at the café.
The menu will include ham with Easter trimmings. Please remember to maintain social distancing while waiting in line.
The café will be closed on Good Friday for Easter and reopen at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Apollo-Ridge amends meal distribution due to Easter and spring break
The Food Service Department of the Apollo-Ridge School District is providing free bagged meals to district children during the school shut-down. Due to the Easter holiday and planned spring break next week, the distribution schedule is changed.
Two meals will be distributed today, Tuesday and April 14 at the following times and locations:
• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school, Kiski Township
• 11 to 11:30 a.m. at Second Street and Owens Field, Apollo
• 11:50 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. at Elderton Bank, North Apollo
• 11:15 to 11:30 a.m. at Iselin Volunteer Fire Company, 375 Red St., Young Township
• 11:50 a.m. to 12:10 p.m., Coal Run Fire Department, 2049 Coal Run Road, Young Township

Harrison diaper pantry changes to drive-up distribution
The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, will distribute diapers 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights.
Recipients must drive up to the church or near the Hayden Center in Sheldon Park, and remain in their vehicles.
First-time recipients must still provide present their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.
Small Acts of Kindness
In recent weeks, the Covid19 Virus has impacted everyone’s lives across the Alle-Kiski Valley. Many have and will step up to help family, friends and others they don’t even know.

Wednesday: The Kiski Valley Water Pollution Control Authority meeting is canceled.
May 17: The free Fishing Derby at Northmoreland Park that was planned by the Westmoreland County Bureau of Parks and Recreation is canceled, as are all park facility reservations for April and May.
Apollo
Apollo Area Historical Society museum will remain closed until at least May 2. The April 5 program about trolleys will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at the WCTU Building, 317 N. Second St.
Arnold
Recycling collection has been suspended until further notice. All garbage and recycling items can be placed out for the garbage crew to collect. All items must be in a bag and tied up. No loose items will be picked up.
Thursdays: Services at Arnold Towers are canceled.
Arnold United Methodist Church: All meetings, activities and services are canceled.
Brackenridge
• The borough office is closed to the public, but is accepting telephone calls during normal business hours. Payments will be accepted by mail or through the mail slot.
Buffalo Township

Butler
Butler Lions Club has canceled the April membership and board meetings and the following events: the April 18 Adopt-A-Highway, the sausage sale and Mother’s Day rose sale. Membership meetings are tentatively scheduled to resume May 5.
East Deer
Today: Township supervisors will meet virtually at 7:30 p.m. Public comments can be emailed to eastdeermanager@outlook.com or dropped off by 3 p.m. today in the office drop box. An agenda will be posted by 3 p.m. today at eastdeertownship.org/.

Residents who wish to speak during the visitors written request period must submit a request by Facebook messenger by the time of the meeting.
Harrison

Friday: The Allegheny Valley Association of Churches community Good Friday service is canceled.

Leechburg
May 9: The borough cleanup day is postponed and may be rescheduled. The borough crew will not pick up lawn waste because the roll off boxes used to put the waste in are not available at this time.
Leechburg Recycling Center is closed. There will be no pick-ups or drop-offs until further notice. No materials should be dropped off in front of the recycling center gate.
First United Methodist Church: worship services are canceled until further notice.
Friday: The fish fries at Leechburg Volunteer Fire Department are canceled.
Mondays: The GriefShare group sessions at First Evangelical Lutheran Church are postponed and will be rescheduled.
Lower Burrell
Saturday: The ClothesLine ministry at Bethesda Lutheran Church will be closed.
April 13 and 15: The Lower Burrell Council and Planning Commission meetings are canceled.

Plum

Plum Community Center is closed and all events canceled. Meals on Wheels will continue as scheduled. Those over 60 who are food insecure or rely on the daily lunch can continue to pick up Congregant Lunch provided by the county on a take-out basis only. Pick-ups will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Lunches must be ordered a day in advance by calling 412-795-2330.
Oakmont

• Tarentum Elks Lodge is closed. Entertainment, bingo and the May 2 cash bash are canceled.
• Veterans of Foreign Wars is closed and there will be no Friday night bar bingo.

Vandergrift
St. Gertrude Church spaghetti dinners are canceled until further notice.
Vandergrift Public Library: the due date for all materials that have been checked out has been extended. If you log into your online account and notice an item with a different due date, please contact the library. The Book Drop is closed. Keep all materials until the library reopens. Tax forms have now been placed into the Little Free Library since the library is closed. AARP Tax Appointments have been postponed and representatives will contact clients directly who have an upcoming appointment.
April 21: The Miss Freddye and Musicians in Unity concert at the Casino Theater is canceled. For refunds, call 724-567-5049 if paid by cash or check. Credit card refunds will be issued to your card.
Washington Township
