Free shredding event planned in Lower Burrell
A free paper shredding event will be hosted by Rep. Bob Brooks from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Lower Burrell Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road.
Residents are welcome to bring documents that contain personal information, such as Social Security numbers, medical data, tax returns or bank account numbers, to be shredded.
Materials must be in brown paper bags or cardboard boxes with open tops and be in the trunk of each vehicle. Do not tape or fold the box lids closed. Residents will not be allowed to exit their vehicles. After each box is emptied the worker will return it to the trunk.
There is a limit of three boxes of paperwork per household. The event will service a maximum of 150 vehicles. No businesses please. For details, visit Facebook.com/RepBrooks or RepBrooks.com.

Freeport Borough is seeking a resident to serve on the five-member planning commission.

Applications are being accepted for the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship program.
Students must have financial need, demonstrate good grades, participate in extracurricular activities and submit an essay, poem or drawing expressing attributes of King.
