11th annual Tails on the Trails walk scheduled Sept. 26

Save the date for the 11th annual Tails on the Trails dog walk to benefit Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 26 at Northmoreland Park, Allegheny Township.

Participants should meet at Pavilion 11 by the lake, 280 Markle Road. Registration is at 10 a.m. and at 11 a.m. there will be a Blessing of the Pets ceremony. Food and drinks will be served at 12:30 p.m. and games activities with your dog will be afterward.

Cost is $25 and reservations are required. No walkins will be accepted. For reservations, click here.


Donations welcome for Tarentum Food Pantry

Donations for the food pantry in the Tarentum Friendship Garden can be dropped off at the pantry on First Avenue or at the side doors to First United Presbyterian Church, 913 Lock St., Tarentum.

Items needed include cereal, bread, canned vegetables, soup, macaroni and cheese, rice, spaghetti and pasta sauce.


Help available from HOPE Center hotline

If social distancing has forced you into an unsafe situation, help is available by calling the Alle-Kiski HOPE Center 24-hour hotline at 724-224-1266.

The hotline provides information about domestic violence, community resources, safety planning, support and more.


Christopher’s Light charity accepting donations

Childrens charity Christopher’s Light is collecting donations of back to school supplies, gently used clothing and personal care items from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays and Thursdays at its location at 202 Point St., Saltsburg.

Christopher’s Light serves children in need who live in Armstrong, Westmoreland and Indiana counties. Items needed include backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, markers, crayons, facial tissues, toothbrushes, shampoo, deodorant, sunscreen and toothpaste. For alternate drop off sites, text 724-980-2840.

To send a monetary donation, send your check made out to Christopher’s Light to P.O. Box 94, Apollo PA 15613.

South Buffalo

Aug. 8: The gun bash planned by South Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department has been changed to an online event at 6:30 p.m. on the department Facebook page. Some prizes are not available due to covid-19 restrictions. If your ticket number is called for the one of the prizes that is not available, you will receive cash in the amount of the department’s cost of the gun. All hourly prizes will remain the same. The 7 p.m. grand prize will be $2,000 and will also be drawn on Facebook. All winners will be contacted by telephone, and winning numbers posted on Facebook and on the firehall door. No refunds will be issued.

Springdale

Oct. 3: The Monte Carlo Night planned by Springdale High School Alumni Association is canceled. Association meetings are suspended until further notice.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has canceled the Cash Bash. The 50/50 Progressive Raffle tickets dated May 9, 2020 will be drawn on Sept. 12. The fire company thanks everyone for their continued support during this trying time.

Sept. 13: The craft and vendor fair is canceled.

West Deer

West Deer Farmers Market is canceled.

Aug. 28: The West Deer Police Benefit Golf Scramble that was to be May 1 is rescheduled to be Aug. 28 at Pittsburgh North Golf Course, Richland Township. Cost: $85 per golfer. Registration form: click here.
