Veterans Appreciation Luncheons planned Friday

Rep. Bob Brooks will host drive-thru Veterans Appreciation Luncheons for veterans of the 54th District of the Pa. House of Representatives from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Mogie’s Restaurant and Irish Pub, 3210 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell; Cornerstone Ministries Church, 2200 Cornerstone Lane, Murrysville; and Deer Creek Diner, 13 Creighton Russellton Road, West Deer.

Veterans and a guest will receive a boxed lunch and veterans will receive a certificate of merit and commemorative service pin.

The 54th District includes West Deer, Fawn, Harrison, Allegheny Township, Lower Burrell, Upper Burrell, Murrysville, Export and Penn Township.

Reservations are required by noon Wednesday. To register, call 724-387-1281 or 724-335-2790 and specify at which location you will pick up your meal.


Food collection underway at Vandergrift VFW

The Vandergrift Veterans of Foreign Wars is collecting non-perishable food items for local veterans in need and those at the Mechling-Shakley Veterans Center in Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County.

A drop-off box is located behind the outer doors of the VFW, 141-143 Sumner Ave.


Free diapers and food available at Highlands Family Center

Highlands Family Center, Tarentum, will distribute free diapers, produce and dairy products from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the center, 415 E. Fourth Ave.

Registration is required. To register, call the center at 724-224-9006. Call as soon as possible. Spots go quickly.


Salvation Army offers free lunches

The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center in Brackenridge offers free grab and go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays in parking lot at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave.

August: The monthly dinner at Calvary Lutheran Church is canceled.

Armstrong County

The annual Armstrong County Senior Expo at Kittanning Township Volunteer Fire Department is canceled.

Butler

Aug. 28: The Butler High School Class of 1970 reunion is canceled and rescheduled to be the weekend of Aug. 28, 2121, at Butler Country Club. There are plans for a neighborhood night and golf outing.

Ford City

Aug. 29: The Armstrong County Labor Day Parade and Ethnic Feastival are canceled.

Freeport

September: The annual September By the River festival is canceled.

October: The Freeport Halloween carnival is canceled.

Aug. 22: The Wine and Food Festival planned at Burtner House is canceled. No decision on the Harvest Festival has been made yet.  

Leechburg

Sept. 19: The annual Pink Day festival is canceled.

Oakmont

Springdale 

Oct. 3: The Monte Carlo Night planned by Springdale High School Alumni Association is canceled. Association meetings are suspended until further notice.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has canceled the Cash Bash. The 50/50 Progressive Raffle tickets dated May 9, 2020 will be drawn on Sept. 12. The fire company thanks everyone for their continued support during this trying time.

Sept. 13: The craft and vendor fair is canceled.

Washington Township

Sept. 19: The annual Moonlight Bingo at Washington Township Volunteer Firehall is canceled.

West Deer

West Deer Farmers Market is canceled.

Aug. 28: The West Deer Police Benefit Golf Scramble that was to be May 1 is rescheduled to be Aug. 28 at Pittsburgh North Golf Course, Richland Township. Cost: $85 per golfer. Registration form: click here.
