Salvation Army accepting registrations for annual Back to School Bash

Due to the pandemic, the annual Back to School Bash hosted annually by the Allegheny Valley Salvation Army Corps and Community Center will be a drive-through, grab-and-go event.

The bash will be from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 22 in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave., Brackenridge. Children must live in the following zip code areas to attend: 15006, 15014, 15030, 15032, 15049, 15065, 15075, 15076, 15084 and 15238 and registration is required.

To register, stop in from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday or 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday or call 724-224-6310.


Help available from HOPE Center hotline

If social distancing has forced you into an unsafe situation, help is available by calling the Alle-Kiski HOPE Center 24-hour hotline at 724-224-1266.

The hotline provides information about domestic violence, community resources, safety planning, support and more.


Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church accepting donations

The Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, is accepting donations of clothing for men, women and children, as well as purses, shoes and belts.

Donations will be accepted during Closet operating hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the church, 305 Allegheny St., and by appointment.

Campmeeting Association plans Saturday evening service

The Pittsburgh-Tarentum Campmeeting Association, 1451 Main St., Natrona Heights, Harrison, will have a service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the campground. The Rev. Jason McQueen, pastor of Dayton United Methodist Church, will preach.

The Rev. Micheal Coats will speak at a 7 p.m. Wednesday service.

The public is welcome.


Free produce distribution set in Natrona

Building Block of Natrona will host its free Veggies for All and Cosmetics Closet outreach for residents in need at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 28 Garfield St., Natrona, Harrison.

Patrons should not arrive before 12:45 p.m. Free produce, and personal care and hygiene products will be distributed.

Extra hygiene steps will be taken. Income verification is not required, and everyone is welcome. Face masks are required and social distancing will be enforced.


Pot Love Dinner planned Saturday in Leechburg

Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church, Leechburg, will host its monthly free Pot Love Dinner at noon Saturday at the church, 271 Main St.

The event will be takeout only and reservations are required today. There is a limit of one dinner per family member. Those with reservations will be served first. For reservations, call 724-845-1901 or email church@crcpc.org.

Line-up will be outside and social distancing must be observed.

Kiski Township

Today: Kiski Township Volunteer Firemen will host a take-out Food Extravaganza from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the firehall, 1037 Route 56. There will be four food stations set up in the truck bays to select from. Menu: station 1: Italian sausage sandwich, macaroni and cheese; station 2: hamburgers and hot dogs; station 3: Philly steak and cheese fries; and station 4: spaghetti and meatballs with roll.

Saturday: A takeout chicken and biscuit dinner will be from 4 to 6 p.m. or until sold out at New Beginnings United Methodist Church, 1559 Route 56. Menu: chicken and biscuits, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, coleslaw and dessert. Cost: $10. Pickup will be under the portico.

Leechburg

Saturday: A Brody’s Lemonade Stand will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market. Funds raised will go to the Joe’s Alzstarz Team for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Studecakers Gourmet Cupcakes will be available from noon to 4 p.m., or until sold out.

Saturday: The Leechburg Area Museum, 118 First St., will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Face masks and social distancing required.

Lower Burrell

Saturday: The Lower Burrell Farmers Market will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in city hall parking lot, 2800 Bethel St. Face masks required. Details: 724-339-1452

New Kensington

The annual Armstrong County Senior Expo at Kittanning Township Volunteer Fire Department is canceled.

Aug. 28: The Butler High School Class of 1970 reunion is canceled and rescheduled to be the weekend of Aug. 28, 2121, at Butler Country Club. There are plans for a neighborhood night and golf outing.

Ford City

Aug. 29: The Armstrong County Labor Day Parade and Ethnic Feastival are canceled.

Freeport

September: The annual September By the River festival is canceled.

October: The Freeport Halloween carnival is canceled. 

Harrison

Aug. 22: The Wine and Food Festival planned at Burtner House is canceled. No decision on the Harvest Festival has been made yet.  

Leechburg

Sept. 19: The annual Pink Day festival is canceled.

Oakmont

Oct. 3: The Cash Giveaway Bash sponsored by Upper Burrell and Parks volunteer fire companies is canceled.

Saxonburg

Sept. 12 and 13: The Saxonburg Festival of the Arts is canceled.

Springdale 

Oct. 3: The Monte Carlo Night planned by Springdale High School Alumni Association is canceled. Association meetings are suspended until further notice.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has canceled the Cash Bash. The 50/50 Progressive Raffle tickets dated May 9, 2020 will be drawn on Sept. 12. The fire company thanks everyone for their continued support during this trying time.

Sept. 13: The craft and vendor fair is canceled.

Washington Township

Sept. 19: The annual Moonlight Bingo at Washington Township Volunteer Firehall is canceled.

West Deer

West Deer Farmers Market is canceled.

Aug. 28: The West Deer Police Benefit Golf Scramble that was to be May 1 is rescheduled to be Aug. 28 at Pittsburgh North Golf Course, Richland Township. Cost: $85 per golfer. Registration form: click here.
