Community block party planned in North Apollo

North Apollo Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a community Summer Block Party from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the firehall, 311 16th St.

There will be music, children’s games, chuck-a-luck, a craft fair, basket raffle and food and drink vendors.


Suicide awareness event to raise money for veterans charity

The Richard Harley Memorial Veterans Suicide Awareness event will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the AK Valley Park event center, 600 Freeport Road, New Kensington.

There will be a military remembrance with Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion honor guards, an all-wheels vehicle show, corn hole tournament, music and karaoke, basket raffle, food trucks, vendors, the Shrine clowns and children’s activities.

Sponsored by the Wild Jeepers Jeep Club, proceeds will be donated to Mission-22 that provides support to veterans and their families.


East Deer to host summer celebration festival

The East Deer Summer Celebration will be from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at the township Memorial Park.

There will be a DJ, food, free pony rides, vendors, music, a silent auction, a foam party, a balloon artist and magic show. The Family Tradition Band will entertain from 6 to 8 p.m.

Today: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

Hampton

Harmar

Today: The dementia caregiver support group at South Butler Community Library will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. at the library, 240 W. Main St. The group meets the second Thursday of each month and provides a safe place for caregivers to share their feelings and discuss their day-to-day challenges. No reservations required. Springdale

West Deer   

Friday : Highpointe at Rebecca will present the Highlife Band in concert from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the facility’s outdoor courtyard, 1871 Highpointe Lane. In case of inclement weather, the free concert will be inside. Tours of the facility will be available and refreshments will be served. Reservations are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. Aug. 21: Join Allegheny County Park Rangers and help with habitat restoration from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Deer Lakes Park. Meet at the Veterans I shelter. Volunteers will use hand tools to remove invasive species and may plant native species. Expect to participate in physical activity. No experience is necessary. Winfield
