Professional wrestling event to benefit Citizens Hose/EMS/Rescue

Citizens Hose Fire, EMS and Rescue will sponsor an evening of professional wrestling Aug. 24 at the firehall, 965 Burtner Road, Harrison.

Food vendors will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. and wrestling with KSWA Wrestling will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair.

Soft plastic recycling project underway

The Highlands Area Rotary and Lions clubs are partnering to collect and recycle soft plastics to get a new bench for the community.

Residents can drop off clean, dry soft plastic items in collection bins located at Community Library of Allegheny Valley and Community Market, both in Harrison, and Salvation Army in Brackenridge.

Items that will be accepted include produce, grocery store and ice bags, recloseable bags like Ziploc, cereal box liners, bread bags, newspaper sleeves, dry cleaning bags, bubble wrap and plastic mailers.


Annual Shaw Ride to raise funds for scholarships

The Officer Brian Shaw Memorial Scholarship Ride will begin and end Saturday at the Pittsburgh Shrine Center, 1877 Shriners Way, Harmar.

Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and kickstands up will be at 10 a.m. The group will pass through Lower Burrell on Leechburg Road between 11:15 and 11:45 a.m. Riders will come from Route 56, turn right at Rite Aid onto Leechburg Road and ride the length of the road to Freeport Road in New Kensington. There could be slight traffic delays.

A celebration will be afterward from noon to 4 p.m. at the Shrine Center. There will be games, food, entertainment and a basket auction. Funds raised will benefit the annual scholarship given to local students. For details, visit shawride.org.


Cadogan to celebrate at annual festival

The annual Cadogan Festival will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the township Overlook Park.

There will be food trucks, a basket raffle, performances by local bands and fireworks displays at 9:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Bring a lawn chair.

Riders in the Officer Brian Shaw Memorial Scholarship Fund Motorcycle Ride will pass through between 10:15 and 10:45 a.m. and touch-a-truck will be from 1 to 3 p.m., both on Saturday. There will be a car show and a DJ from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
