Small Acts of Kindness

Did your neighbor call and check on you, or bring a face mask or groceries? The Stroller wants to recognize those around us who are performing small acts of kindness for others during this stressful time. Knead Community Café accepting donations

Knead Community Café, New Kensington, is accepting donations to help the daily operation of the café, 1011 Barnes St.

Items on the café’s wish list include: antibacterial hand sanitizer and refills, Clorox wipes, disposable latex or nitrile gloves size large or one-size-fits-all, paper towels, white premium napkins, 8x8-inch or 9x9-inch single compartment Styrofoam hinged takeout containers, premium plastic forks and knives and Sam’s Club gift cards.

Donations will be accepted during business hours 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Free movie planned in Boyce Park

The free Allegheny County Family Drive-in Movie planned Tuesday in Boyce Park airfield parking lot will be, “Lion King,” rated PG.

Gates open at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk. There is a 100 vehicle limit, first-come, first served. Refreshments will be available. The event is sponsored by the Allegheny Regional Asset District.

Tuesday: Allegheny Township Zoning Hearing Board will conduct a public hearing at 7 p.m. in the township community building, 136 Community Building Road.

Apollo

Today: Apollo Hose Co. No. 2 is accepting orders for a takeout spaghetti dinner set for noon to 5 p.m. Menu: spaghetti with meat sauce, salad with ranch or Italian dressing and Italian bread and butter. Sept. 11: St. Vladimir Church, 1610 Kenneth Ave., is taking orders for its potato and kraut pierogi sale. Orders will be taken from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning Tuesday. Saturday: The Armstrong County Labor Day Parade and Ethnic Feastival are canceled.

Freeport

September: The annual September By the River festival is canceled.

October: The Freeport Halloween carnival is canceled.

All activities at Burtner House are canceled through the end of the year.

Jefferson

Oct. 3: The annual Oktoberfest at Concordia Lutheran Ministries is canceled. A drive-in fireworks display is still planned. Details will be announced.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has canceled the Cash Bash. The 50/50 Progressive Raffle tickets dated May 9, 2020 will be drawn on Sept. 12. The fire company thanks everyone for their continued support during this trying time.

Sept. 13: The craft and vendor fair is canceled.

Vandergrift

Lower Burrell Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary

Lower Burrell VFW Auxiliary met recently and welcomed the following new members: Bruce C. Davis, Carla J. Luke and Amy Turk, regular members; and life members, Virginia L. Hanchett and Alleen Kunkle.
