Casino Theatre plans auditions for holiday show

The Casino Theatre in Vandergrift will hold auditions for its 27th annual Hometown Christmas production at 6 p.m. Monday at the theater.

Please use the stage door in the alley. Anyone who is at least 5 years old is welcome to try out. Be prepared to sing a short vocal selection and if requested, recite a few lines from a script that will be provided.

Opportunities available to help senior citizens

Open Your Heart to a Senior is looking for volunteers to help our older neighbors.

People are needed to drive to doctor appointments, shop for groceries and make calls to check on and say hello to people who are alone. To offer your time and for information, call 724-205-6282 or email oyhs@wfspa.org.

Sept. 11: The Armstrong County Memorial Hospital Medical Staff Foundation will sponsor an intro to kayaking class at 6 p.m. on Crooked Creek Lake. Cost: $20 per person and space is limited. Participants must be at least 13 years of age with a parent/guardian who is 18 or older as a paid participant on the water as well. Brackenridge  

Sunday: Brackenridge Improvement Group will sponsor a fall mulching party at 5 p.m. in Brackenridge Memorial Park, First Avenue. Volunteers are needed to mulch the new trees that were planted around town. Pizza will be served afterward.

Monday: A story time and craft workshop will be at 11 a.m. in the pavilion of Brackenridge Memorial Park, First Avenue. Sponsored by Brackenridge Improvement Group.

Sept. 21: The auxiliaries of Pioneer Hose and Hilltop Hose companies will host a super bingo at Pioneer Hose Company, 124 Morgan St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., early birds start at 12:45 p.m. and regular bingo begins at 1 p.m. Cost: $35, in advance, will be $40 at the door; includes a light lunch and bingo packet.
