Golf outing to benefit Freeport hockey, baseball programs

A golf outing fundraiser to benefit Freeport Hockey and Baseball will be Oct. 1 at Birdsfoot Golf Club, 225 Furnace Road, South Buffalo.

The event is a four-man scramble and the shotgun start will be at 8 a.m. Cost is $125 per golfer or $450 per foursome, and includes breakfast, a cart, buffet luncheon and refreshments while golfing. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Oakmont Scout troop to mark75th anniversary

Boy Scout Troop 854 of Oakmont will celebrate its 75th anniversary this year at a gathering and dinner from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 3 in the dining room at Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 415 Pennsylvania Ave.

Formerly known as Troop 54, the troop will welcome all current and former Scouts and leaders to the event. Dinner will be served and there will be displays of troop memorabilia, photographs and guest speakers.

Sunday: Harrison Hills Park will offer a free Junior Ranger program, “Native and Invasive Species” with the park rangers,” from 9 to 11 a.m. in the park. The program is geared for children age 5 to 10, but everyone is welcome. Meet at the Yakaon Shelter. This is a 1-mile hike that is rated easy. Through Wednesday: Panera Bread Café will donate a portion of sales from each Frozen Agave Lemonade, Frozen Strawberry Lemonade, Lemon Drop Cookie and Lemonade tote sold to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a pediatric cancer charity that funds cancer treatment and research.
