Western Pa. toy run to benefit children’s charities

The 31st annual Western Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Toy Run to benefit the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department Tree of Hope program and other family charities will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Lower Burrell Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road.

All brands of motorcycles are welcome. Admission is one new toy in original wrapping or $15 and includes refreshments and entertainment. No stuffed animals, please. There will be games, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and bike show with prizes. Rain or shine.

Individuals who register in advance will receive a chance to win $200. The drawing will be at noon and winner must be present. The largest organized club or group to register will receive a check for a minimum of $700 to present to the children’s charity of their choice for use at Christmastime and a plaque.

11th annual Tails on the Trails walk planned Sept. 26

Save the date for the 11th annual Tails on the Trails dog walk to benefit Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 26 at Northmoreland Park, Allegheny Township.

Participants should meet at Pavilion 11 by the lake, 280 Markle Road. Registration is at 10 a.m. and at 11 a.m. there will be a Blessing of the Pets ceremony. Food and drinks will be served at 12:30 p.m. and games activities with your dog will be afterward.

Cost is $25 and reservations are required. No walkins will be accepted. For reservations, click here.

Sept. 11: St. Vladimir Church, 1610 Kenneth Ave., is taking orders for its potato and kraut pierogi sale. Orders will be taken from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning Tuesday. Sept. 18: St. Joseph High School is conducting a $20,000 Super Raffle. Cost: $100 per ticket. Prizes include a $20,000 grand prize, three $1,000 runner-up prizes. Winner need not be present. Indiana Township

Saturday: The free Allegheny County Family Drive-in Movie in the Hartwood Acres Amphitheater will be, “Lion King,” rated PG. Gates open at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk. 300 vehicle limit, first-come, first served. Refreshments available. Sponsored by the Allegheny Regional Asset District.

Kiski Township

Friday: Kiski Township Volunteer Firemen will host a take-out Food Extravaganza from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the firehall, 1037 Route 56. Pull into the parking lot, exit your vehicle and select from four food stations set up in the truck bays. Menu: station 1: Philly steak sandwich and haluski; station 2: hamburgers and hotdogs; station 3: pulled pork fries, bacon and cheddar fries; and station 4: spaghetti and meatballs with roll.

Leechburg

Saturday: The Leechburg Area Museum, 118 First St., will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Face masks and social distancing required.

Lower Burrell

Saturday: The Lower Burrell Farmers Market will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in city hall parking lot, 2800 Bethel St. Face masks required. Details: 724-339-1452

New Kensington 

Saturday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A buy-one, get-one-free sale will be until the end of summer. Face masks are required, and a maximum of 25 people can be in the store at one time. Donations welcome only hours that the closet is open.

Sunday: GFWC Saxonburg will hold an online raffle for a Yeti cooler, 4 Yeti wine coolers, a $50 gift card to Heritage Wine Cellar and a $250 gift card to Thoma’s Meat Market. Cost: $20 per ticket.
