Free webinar to discuss how to prevent tick bites
Penn State Extension will offer a free live webinar, “Protecting Yourself from Tick Bites,” live online at 2 and 6 p.m. Aug. 13. Choose which session you wish to view.
Topics will include avoidance, prevention and reduction of tick-borne disease.

Alzheimer’s Foundation offers free helpline
The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America is expanding the hours of its helpline to be from 9 a.m.to 9 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
Families affected by dementia-related illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease, individuals living with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia, professional caregivers and anyone who has questions about brain health can connect with a licensed social worker through the AFA hotline.
To connect to the hotline, call 866-232-8484, visit alzfdn.org and click on the blue and white chat icon, or send a text to 646-586-5283. Web chat and text message features can serve people in over 90 languages.
Free drive-in movies planned in Allegheny County parks
The Allegheny County Family Drive-In Movie series will feature free drive-in movies each week at Boyce Park in Plum and Hartwood Acres Park in Indiana Township.
Movies will be at sundown Tuesdays in Boyce Park and Saturdays in Hartwood Acres Park.
This week’s movie will be, “Doolittle,” rated PG.
HOPE Center seeking childcare volunteers
The Alle-Kiski HOPE Center is looking for volunteers to help with childcare.
Clearances and training are required and will be provided by the center.

Saturday: The gun bash planned by South Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department has been changed to an online event at 6:30 p.m. on the department Facebook page. Some prizes are not available due to covid-19 restrictions. If your ticket number is called for the one of the prizes that is not available, you will receive cash in the amount of the department’s cost of the gun. All hourly prizes will remain the same. The 7 p.m. grand prize will be $2,000 and will also be drawn on Facebook. All winners will be contacted by telephone, and winning numbers posted on Facebook and on the firehall door. No refunds will be issued.
Springdale
Oct. 3: The Monte Carlo Night planned by Springdale High School Alumni Association is canceled. Association meetings are suspended until further notice.
