Registrations being accepted for Salvation Army Back to School Bash

Due to the pandemic, the annual Back to School Bash hosted annually by the Allegheny Valley Salvation Army Corps and Community Center will be a drive-through, grab-and-go event.

The bash will be from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 22 in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave., Brackenridge. Children must live in the following zip code areas to attend: 15006, 15014, 15030, 15032, 15049, 15065, 15075, 15076, 15084 and 15238 and registration is required.

To register, stop in from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday or 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday or call 724-224-6310.


Free diapers and food available at Highlands Family Center

Highlands Family Center, Tarentum, will distribute free diapers, produce and dairy products from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the center, 415 E. Fourth Ave.

Registration is required. To register, call the center at 724-224-9006. Call as soon as possible. Spots go quickly.


Salvation Army offers free lunches

The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center in Brackenridge offers free grab and go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays in parking lot at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave.

Wednesday: The food trucks scheduled to be at the Wheel Good Wednesday event from 4 to 8 p.m. are DelVecchio’s, Ash & Kris Kitchen, Fox’s Mobile Den, Frank’s Red Rocket, Kona Ice, Wine O’Clock Somewhere Winery and Big Black Grill BBQ. September: Community Library of Allegheny Valley is sponsoring a cash calendar raffle for September. Winning numbers will be taken from the 7 p.m. Pennsylvania Daily Pick 3 drawing. Cost: $5, for two numbers. Ticket numbers will be chosen at random and e-mailed to you. Winnings will be mailed. Tickets: visit the library website.

Kiski Township

Wednesday: Kiski Township Supervisors will conduct the agenda meeting at 6 p.m. at the municipal building, 1222 Old State Road. Details: 724-478-2737

Aug. 11: Kiski Township Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a Marianna’s Hoagie and Pizza sale. Orders and payment are due by Aug. 11. Delivery will be Aug. 19. Hoagies are 14 inches and varieties are Italian, ham and swiss, turkey, All-American and ham club. Pizzas are 12 inches in diameter and varieties are pepperoni, cheese, white and meat supreme. Allegheny Township

Sept. 6 and 7: The annual Labor United Celebration planned for Northmoreland Park is canceled.

Butler

Aug. 28: The Butler High School Class of 1970 reunion is canceled and rescheduled to be the weekend of Aug. 28, 2121 at Butler Country Club. There are plans for a neighborhood night and golf outing.

Ford City

Aug. 29: The Armstrong County Labor Day Parade and Ethnic Feastival are canceled.

Freeport

September: The annual September By the River festival is canceled.

October: The Freeport Halloween carnival is canceled. 

Harrison

Aug. 22: The Wine and Food Festival planned at Burtner House is canceled. No decision on the Harvest Festival has been made yet.  

Kiski Township

Thursday, Friday and Saturday: The rummage sale planned at Spring Church Lutheran Church is canceled.

Leechburg

Sept. 19: The annual Pink Day festival is canceled.

Leechburg High School Class of 1960 Reunion planned for August is postponed until Aug. 7, 2021.

Lower Burrell

Aug. 10: Lower Burrell Council meetings are canceled.

Oakmont

Oct. 3: The Cash Giveaway Bash sponsored by Upper Burrell and Parks volunteer fire companies is canceled.

Saxonburg

Springdale 

Oct. 3: The Monte Carlo Night planned by Springdale High School Alumni Association is canceled. Association meetings are suspended until further notice.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has canceled the Cash Bash. The 50/50 Progressive Raffle tickets dated May 9, 2020 will be drawn on Sept. 12. The fire company thanks everyone for their continued support during this trying time.

Sept. 13: The craft and vendor fair is canceled.

West Deer

West Deer Farmers Market is canceled.

Aug. 28: The West Deer Police Benefit Golf Scramble that was to be May 1 is rescheduled to be Aug. 28 at Pittsburgh North Golf Course, Richland Township. Cost: $85 per golfer. Registration form: click here.
