Casino Theatre seeking donations

The Casino Theater in Vandergrift is seeking donations to help with the upkeep and maintenance of the theater during the current pandemic.

Since mid-March six shows at the theater have been canceled, but the costs of maintenance and utility bills continue to come in. Revenue lost from these performances could top $25,000.

The theater is marking its 120^th anniversary this year and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Donations can be sent to Casino Theatre Restoration and Management, 145 Lincoln Ave., PO Box 202, Vandergrift PA 15690. Contributions are fully tax deductible.

Free movie in the park scheduled in Plum

A free Movie in the Park will be Saturday evening at the soccer fields at Larry Mills Park, Fontana Drive, Plum.

Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at dusk. The featured film will be, “Frenemies – Angry Birds 2,” rated PG. Bring a blanket or chair or sit in your car.

Small Acts of Kindness

Lisa Guido of Lower Burrell would like to thank her neighbor Eldaree “Ree” Meyers. “My dad passed away on St. Patrick’s Day. It was the first week of quarantine and already the shelves were empty at the stores. There were numerous items I couldn’t find, including flour and Coke which is my go-to beverage. I was worried because I had family coming in from out of state. Ree showed up the next morning with three full cases of Coke, flour, Clorox wipes, toilet paper and several other items. Throughout quarantine, she went out of her way to check on me, bring me groceries, have a face mask made for me – and she even brought my dog bones! I can’t thank her enough.”

Aug. 11: Kiski Township Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a Marianna’s Hoagie and Pizza sale. Orders and payment are due by Aug. 11. Delivery will be Aug. 19. Hoagies are 14 inches and varieties are Italian, ham and Swiss, turkey, All-American and ham club. Pizzas are 12 inches in diameter and varieties are pepperoni, cheese, white and meat supreme.
