Bicycle safety program planned in Leechburg

Leechburg Police Department and Leechburg Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a bicycle safety program for children at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the firehall, 268 Canal St.

Staff from UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh will conduct training and a limited number of bicycle helmets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The Armstrong County K9 will make an appearance.

Six Steps to Recovery Group offered by Lower Burrell PD

Lower Burrell Police Department will sponsor a Six Steps to Recovery support group for people who have a loved one affected by addiction.

The faith-based group will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursdays Sept. 7 through Nov. 16 at St. Margaret Mary Church, 3055 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell. Parents and families will learn how enabling and codependency contribute to addiction. Reservations are required.

Free lunches available at Brackenridge Salvation Army

The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in parking lot at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave.

Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.
