Annual Shaw Ride to raise funds for scholarships
The Officer Brian Shaw Memorial Scholarship Ride will be Aug. 16 and start and finish at the Pittsburgh Shrine Center, 1877 Shriners Way, Harmar.
Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and kickstands up will be at 10 a.m. A celebration will be afterward from noon to 4 p.m. at the Shrine Center. Heidi and the Hellcats will perform and there will be games, food, T-shirts and a basket auction.
Cost on event day will be $40 per rider and $20 per passenger, cash only. Admission to the afterparty only is $10. Funds raised will benefit the annual scholarship given to local students. For details, visit shawride.org.
Free rides available to medical appointments
Wesley Family Services offers free transportation for those 18 and older from their homes to medical facilities within New Kensington, Arnold, Lower Burrell and parts of Vandergrift.
Rides are available from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except holidays. One-way and round-trip rides are available.
