Vandergrift VFW collecting donations for veterans’ shelter

Vandergrift Veterans of Foreign Wars is collecting food and small gifts to be donated to the Mechling-Shakley Veterans Center in Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County.

The shelter offers housing, therapy and occupational rehabilitation for homeless veterans and relies solely on donations.

A drop-off box is located behind the outer doors of the VFW, 141-143 Sumner Ave.


Salvation Army accepting registrations for toy distribution

Allegheny Valley Salvation Army is accepting registrations for its children’s Christmas toy distribution.

Children must be 13 or younger and live in the following zip codes, 15006., 15014. 15030, 15032, 15049, 15065, 15075, 15076, 15084 and 15238.

To register call social worker Victoria at 724-224-6310, ext. 1. Deadline to register is Monday.

Toy donations can be made through the Walmart at walmart.com/registry/registryforgood/welcome. Search for Allegheny Valley Salvation Army Treasure for Good.


Free webinar offered for local small business owners

The Corner Launchbox, New Kensington, will offer a free online seminar on tax incentives for local businesses at 10 a.m. Dec. 9.

Programs to be discussed include Opportunity Zone, keystone Innovation Zone, New Markets Tax Credit and LERTA and Tax Increment Financing.

Washington Township collecting for Toys for Alle-Kiski Kids

Donations of new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Alle-Kiski Kids can be dropped off in a bin at the main entrance of the Washington Township Municipal Building, 285 Pine Run Church Road.

The bin will be available until Dec. 11.


Springdale Free Public Library closed this week, cancels events

Springdale Free Public Library will be closed this week and will reopen at noon Monday.

Books can be returned to the outside drop bin and fines will be waived this week. The holiday family party scheduled for Friday is canceled. In-person children’s library programming is suspended until after the first of the new year.
