Christmas sing-along set in Saxonburg

The Musical Theater Guild of Butler will lead a free Christmas sing-along at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at South Butler Community Library, 240 W. Main St., Saxonburg.

No singing experience or reservations are required. Refreshments will be served. For details, call the library at 724-352-4810.


High school musicians to perform at Tarentum museum

Two local high school music groups will entertain at the Alle-Kiski Valley Historical Museum, 224 E. Seventh Ave., Tarentum.

The Deer Lakes Strings will perform from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday and the Valley High School Jazz Band will play from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20.

Light refreshments will be available at both events.


Volunteers needed for Allegheny Township Community Days committee

Allegheny Township Supervisors are seeking township residents to serve on a newly formed Community Days committee.

Roaring Run Watershed Association selling 2023 calendars

Roaring Run Watershed Association is conducting a 2023 calendar fundraiser.

Dec. 21: St. James Parish is selling tickets for a scratch-off lottery ticket raffle. The winning number will be the 7 p.m. Dec. 21 Pa. Daily Pick 3 number and the winner will receive one complete roll of $5, $10 and $20 Pennsylvania scratch-off lottery tickets. Cost: $10, contains two numbers. Dec. 31: Tickets are on sale for a New Year’s Eve bingo set for 8 p.m. at Apollo Hose Company No. 2, 325 N. Buffalo Township

Today: The clothes closet at Evangel Heights Church, 120 Beale Road, will distribute free clothing in sizes infant through adult from 9 a.m. to noon.

Today: Alle-Kiski Pickleball Inc. will sponsor a Pickleball is Coming to Freeport Park holiday fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. at Smokin’ Toad’s, 110 S. Pike Road. Cost: $25, includes buffet dinner. Dec. 17: Amethyst Cheerleaders is selling tickets for a Santa is Coming to Town event planned for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the White Star Club, 401 Shuster Drive. East Franklin

Today: The Armstrong High School Educational Activities for Special Education (EASE) will sponsor a holiday craft and vendor show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the high school, 300 Buffington Drive. There will be over 100 vendors and crafters and food. A silent auction will benefit Orphans of the Storm animal shelter, Rayburn.

Fawn

Today: Center United Methodist Church, 1575 Donnellville Road, will host a bluegrass and country Christmas concert, “Christmas with Echo Valley,” at 6 p.m. at the church. Donations will be accepted.

Harrison  

Today: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Sunday: The Knights of Columbus will host a pancake and sausage breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the council home, 28 Garfield St., Natrona. Cost: $6; younger than 6, $3.

Tuesday: The Who Knew? program at Community Library of Allegheny Valley will present, “Musical Memories: Local Music History,” at 6 p.m. at the library, 1522 Broadview Blvd. Online participation available. Friday : Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will sell tickets for a lottery ticket raffle from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and Dec. 15 and 16 in the Carlisle Corner of the hospital cafeteria, 1301 Carlisle St. Cost: $1 each, cash only. Two winners will each receive a sealed package of 100 $1 Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off tickets. The drawing will be at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 16. Proceeds benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.

Kiski Township

Today: Kiski Township Police and Fire Department along with the Apollo Elks and Spring Church Fox’s Pizza are collecting donations of unwrapped toys, clothing and gift cards for local children. Today: The ClothesLine Ministry at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 3084 Leechburg Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Clothing, shoes and purses will be 25 cents each or five for $1. The jewelry room will be open.

Thursday: The Adult Book Club at Peoples Library will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the library, 3052 Wachter St. The selection will be, “The Girls of Atomic City,” by Denise Kiernan. Next month’s book will be provided at this meeting. Details: 724-339-1021, ext. 12.

New Kensington

Today and Tuesday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Items available include clothing for all members of the family, shoes and linens. First-time customers receive 15 free items. Winter clothing donations accepted during business hours.

Tarentum

Today: Tarentum Masons will sponsor a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the lodge, 307 Lock St., second floor. Dine in or takeout. Cost: $10; children, $5. Public welcome.

Today and Sunday: The Church at Tarentum will distribute free food and coats from noon to 4 p.m. today at the church, 528 E. Eighth Ave. A Christmas worship service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Sunday and Tuesday: Alcoholics Anonymous will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St. An opportunity for silent prayer will be at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday: Wesley Family Services, a non-profit that provides behavioral health and therapeutic support services, will host a holiday open house from 1 to 3 p.m. at its drop-in center, 335 E. Fourth Ave. Refreshments will be served and there will be a basket raffle. Details: Darla, 724-355-5007.

Upper Burrell

Dec. 24: Upper Burrell Volunteer Fire Department and Vigilant Hose Company of Portvue are selling tickets for a $15,000 Christmas Cash Giveaway. Cost: $20 per ticket, includes eight numbers. Vandergrift

Washington Township

Monday: Donations of new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Alle-Kiski Kids can be dropped off in a bin in the vestibule of the Washington Township Municipal Building, 285 Pine Run Church Road. The bin will be available until Friday.

West Deer

Today: Deer Lakes Band Boosters will have its ninth annual craft and vendor show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the high school. There will be a basket raffle, a visit from Santa, and performances by the high school choir and band and middle school band. Admission: $1, includes one basket raffle ticket; 4 and younger, free. Proceeds will benefit the school band program.

Today: Bull Creek Women’s Association Christmas bazaar will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bull Creek United Presbyterian Church, 224 Tarentum Culmerville Road. There will be food and a bake sale. Dine in or takeout.

Sunday: A free breakfast with Santa will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at West Deer Volunteer Fire Department No. 1, 1520 Saxonburg Blvd. Doors open at 10 a.m. There will be a children’s toy raffle, crafts and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Sponsored by the township parks and recreation department.
