Train display to benefit food bank

The Model Train Association at Bull Creek United Presbyterian Church, 224 Tarentum-Culmerville Road, is hosting its annual holiday model train display from 6 to 8 p.m. Fridays, 2 to 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 to 6 p.m. Sundays in December at the church in West Deer. Special hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 27, 2 to 8 p.m. Dec. 28 and 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 29. For a private group viewing, call Billy at 724-272-3401 or Rick at 724-448-8444.

Admission is $3; $1 for children younger than 12. Canned goods will be collected to benefit the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank.


Valley High School Drama Club to perform at Peoples Library

The Valley High School Drama Club will present a free performance of an all-new musical Christmas play, “The Eager Elf,” at noon Saturday at Peoples Library, 880 Barnes St., New Kensington.

The show is a story for all ages about a group of elves who are trying to become Santa’s newest helpers at the North Pole.

Santa schedules visits through West Deer

Santa will travel through West Deer with the township volunteer fire companies and pass out treats this weekend.

Friday’s schedule will begin at 5:45 p.m. with Department No. 1 at Bakerstown-Culmerville, to Monier, Shuster, Logan, Moretti Trailer Park, Curtisville 1 and 2, and Saxonburg Blvd. to Benjamin.

On Saturday the route will begin at 5:45 p.m. and travel Saxonburg Blvd. to McKrell Road, Marshall, Poma, Russellton, Superior, Tarentum Culmerville, Route 908 Extension, Millerstown Culmerville and Blanchard.

The firefighters from Department No. 3 will transport Santa beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday through the Cedar Ridge Plan, Grouse Run, Steeplechase, Shoff Farms and Lager Farms.

Monday’s visits will begin at 6 p.m. through Fawn Haven No. 2 and 3, Hytyre Farms, Hunt Club, Whispering Pines, Copper Creek, Bairdford and the Links at Deer Run.

Times and routes may change slightly depending on emergencies.


Rocky Bleier to discuss biography at Concordia at Cabot

Former Pittsburgh Steeler Rocky Bleier will discuss his autobiography, “Fighting Back,” and conduct a book signing at 2 p.m. Friday in the Haven I dining room at Concordia at Cabot, 112 Marwood Road, entrance 2A, Jefferson Township.

Books will be available for purchase for $29.99, and all proceeds benefit the Guardian Angels Service Dogs for military veterans.

Sunday: The Addorolata Society of Mount St. Peter Parish will host a Christmas cookie sale from 11:30 to 2 p.m. in the church Marble Hall, 100 Freeport Road. Cost: $11 per pound, cash only. Boxes will be provided and there will be nut-free and gluten-free varieties. Parking and the entrance to the hall are at the back of the church.

Tarentum

Friday: The Elks will have bar bingo at 7:30 p.m. at the lodge, 219 E. Sixth Ave. There will be regular bingo, specials and a jackpot game. Members and guests welcome.

Vandergrift

Friday: Vandergrift Public Library and Kiski Area Youth Network will host a free afterhours Teen Night from 6 to 10 p.m. for students in seventh through 12th grade at the library, 128C Washington Ave. There will be food, drinks and games. Details: 724-568-2212

Reunion


Leechburg Football Alumni will have a reception at 6 p.m. Saturday at Cicero’s Pub and Grill, 115 Third St., Leechburg. All former players, coaches, managers and anyone who was associated with the football program are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.
