Santa to visit several Valley communities

Santa Claus is planning to ride through several Alle-Kiski Valley communities over the weekend.

North Apollo: Santa will begin his trip with the borough firemen at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Leonard Avenue, and visit the following streets: 4:45 p.m., Wemple; 5 p.m., Center; 5:15 p.m., Robbins; 5:30 p.m., Cochran; 5:45 p.m., Luxemburg; 6 p.m., North Ridge; 6:15 p.m., 16th; 6:30 p.m., Wilson; 6:45 p.m., Moore; 7 p.m., Stoops Court; 7:15 p.m., Allison; 7:30 p.m., Pegtown; 7:45, the plaza; 8 p.m., Acheson; and 8:15 p.m., the fire station.

Rural Ridge, Indiana Township: The Rural Ridge Volunteer Fire Company will bring Santa to the following areas on Saturday: 10 a.m., the Patch; 10:30 a.m., Rural Ridge Estates; 11:30 a.m., Diane Lane; and noon to 1 p.m., Shawny Ridge.

Springdale Township and Harmar: Santa will be with members of the Allegheny Valley Volunteer Fire Company and Harmar Police Department from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Target for pictures and treats. He will visit Springdale Township at approximately these times: 12:30 p.m., Kerr and Butler roads; Shrader, Bucknell, Rachel, Melzina, Sycamore, Williams, Carson, Henderson and Stanley; 1 p.m., High and Crone Hollow, Spring and Main, Pillow, Isobel, Low Grade, Thompson, Orchard, Center, Cambridge Manor, Springwood Square, Maple, McKinley and Parkway; 1:30 p.m., Armstrong and Low Grade, Clyde and Ridge, Plum, Florian, Locust, Mattone Court, Low Grade, English and Wright.

Washington Township: Santa will leave the fire hall between 3:30 and 4 p.m. and head north to the Paulton area, then travel south, ending at Wellington Estates. Weather permitting.


Harrison Police offer drug take back opportunity

Harrison Police Department is hosting a Drug Take Back Day for township residents from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the municipal building, One Municipal Drive.

Items to be accepted include conventional pills, capsules and liquid medications.


Harrison diaper pantry seeking donations

The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, is seeking donations of diapers in sizes 2 to 6 for its monthly diaper pantry distribution.

The pantry will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, 926 Painter Ave., Natrona Heights.

To qualify to receive a package of 50 diapers or 25 Pull-Ups per child, parents or guardians must present their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Kiski Township

Saturday: Kiski Township Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a Breakfast with Santa from 8 a.m. to noon at Kiski Township Social Hall, 1037 Route 56. Santa will visit from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. Menu: bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, home fries, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, waffles, pancakes, polenta and juice. Cost: $9.50; age 4 to 12, $5; 3 and younger, free.

Leechburg

Saturday: The annual Christmas craft and bake sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Holy Innocents Anglican Church, 366 Third St. Soup, haluski, pierogies and hot dogs will be sold. Dine in or take out. Preordered cookie trays will be available for pick up. Details: 724-882-5094

Lower Burrell

Saturday: The Moose Lodge will celebrate the season with DJ Lisa from 8 p.m. to midnight at the lodge, 499 Reimer St. Members and guests welcome. Details: 724-335-4131

Saturday: The Veterans of Foreign Wars will feature doo wop band the Epics from 8 to 11 p.m. in the post. Members and three guests welcome.

Saturday: The Clothes Line at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 3084 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A variety of clothes for all members of the family will be sold for 25 cents each or five for $1. Details: 724-335-0559

Oakmont

Saturday: Riverside Women’s Association will host a Breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Thomas Church, 378 Delaware Ave. Cost: $5. Reservations required. Reservations: RWA@riversidewomensassociation.org

Tarentum

Saturday: Central Presbyterian Church will have its annual Christmas cookie sale and Holiday Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 305 Allegheny St. Over 30 varieties of cookies will be sold, as well as jewelry and books. Details: 724-224-9220

Vandergrift

Saturday: The Veterans of Foreign Wars will host a bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 141 Sumner Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The kitchen will be open. Cost: $40 and there will be specials, smokers games and a 50/50 raffle. Donations will be accepted for the Mechling/Shakely Veterans Center. Details: Ernie, 724-393-7932

West Deer

Saturday: Pleasant Unity Church, 101 Millerstown-Culmerville Road, will host a free pancake breakfast with Santa at 10 a.m. at the church. There will be a magician and visits with Santa and one of his elves. Bring a $5 wrapped gift with your child’s name on it. Reservations required. Reservations: Darlene, 724-352-3615

Saturday: The Deer Lakes Band Boosters annual craft and vendor show will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the high school, 163 East Union Road. There will be a basket raffle, bake sale, food and the opportunity to visit with Santa. Proceeds benefit the school band programs.
