Leechburg Rotary to collect pajamas, children’s books

The Rotary Club of Leechburg and Leechburg Area High School Interact Club are sponsoring the Pajama Project collection through Wednesday in the Leechburg area.

Donations of new pajamas for men, women and children in all sizes, men’s sleep pants and new children’s books will be accepted at the following locations: Kalmar Motors, Christ the King Church and Hunt’s Hill Top, all in Gilpin; and Goat Donut Shoppe, Quarato’s Hardware, Leechburg Public Library, Marconi Club, Leechburg Pizza and First Methodist Church.

Monetary donations may be sent to the Rotary Club of Leechburg, P.O. Box 163, Leechburg PA 15656. Donations will be sent to HAVIN, Children Youth and Families of Armstrong County and the Mechling-Shakley Veterans Center.


Free monthly soup luncheon planned Wednesday

Poke Run Presbyterian Church, Washington Township, will host its free monthly Soup for the Soul luncheon at noon Wednesday at the church, 1091 Poke Run Church Road.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The event is the second Wednesday of the month and runs through May. For details, call the church at 724-327-5563.

Dec. 31: Tickets are on sale for a New Year’s Eve bingo set for 8 p.m. at Apollo Hose Company No. 2, 325 N. Bethel

Dec. 21: The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek, 142 Kerr Road, will host a winter solstice celebration at 6 p.m. at the center. Brackenridge

Wednesday: Al-Anon will meet at 8 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 847 10th Ave. The group offers help and hope for families and friends of alcoholics.

Items available include clothing of all sizes, bedding and window items. Donations of fall and winter clothing, shoes and boots welcome. Donations must be laundered and free from pet hair. Wednesday: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Friday : Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will sell tickets for a lottery ticket raffle from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and Dec. 15 and 16 in the Carlisle Corner of the hospital cafeteria, 1301 Carlisle St. Cost: $1 each, cash only. Two winners will each receive a sealed package of 100 $1 Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off tickets. The drawing will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Proceeds benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.

Jefferson

Tuesday: Concordia at Cabot will sponsor a free monthly caregiver support group at 2 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the Lund Care Center private dining room, 134 Marwood Road.
