Volunteers needed to tutor students at Peoples Library

Peoples Library in New Kensington is seeking adult volunteers to tutor elementary students in its afterschool program.

Adult tutors work one-on-one with at-risk students from the New Kensington-Arnold School District from 4 to 5:20 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the New Kensington library, 880 Barnes St. They provide homework help and focus on basic reading and math skills.

To volunteer, call tutoring coordinator John Coury at 724-294-3179.

Santa to visit children in Arnold

The Arnold Recreation and Events Committee will sponsor Cookies, Cocoa and Carols with a visit from Santa from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Roosevelt Park.

Children can visit Santa and enjoy free cookies, hot chocolate and candy canes.

Christmas variety show planned Sunday

Zion United Methodist Church, 438 Bear Creek Road, Buffalo Township, will host a Christmas variety show at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.

A reception with sweet treats will be afterward in the fellowship hall.

Greyhounds to visit Pittsburgh Mills Mall

Three Rivers Greyhounds will have meet-and-greet events from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in December at the Panera Entrance to Pittsburgh Mills Mall.

Come out and meet the canines by the Christmas mall train.

Leechburg

Wednesday: Leechburg Public Library will present a How The Grinch Stole Christmas Holiday Party for children age 3 to 11 at 6 p.m. at the library, Siberian Avenue. There will be snacks, crafts, story time and games. Parents are welcome to stay and help with the craft.

North Apollo

Sunday: All-you-can-eat breakfast buffet with Santa will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon at North Apollo Fire Hall, 311 16th St. Santa will arrive at 8 a.m. Menu: eggs, pancakes, french toast, sausage, bacon, biscuits and sausage gravy, potatoes, mushrooms, cheese sauce and fruit. Tarentum

Tuesday and Wednesday: Community Library of Allegheny Valley, 400 Lock St., will present, “Remembering the 50s and 60s,” at 6 p.m. as part of the library, Who Knew? Series. Attend either session. Audience participation welcome. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-226-0770

Today: Tarentum Book Club will celebrate the holidays at an organ recital at St. Luke Lutheran Church followed by lunch at Hotel Saxonburg.
