New Kensington church to host holiday lunch

Logans Ferry Presbyterian Church will host a Christmas Soup N’ Sing at noon Thursday at the church, 750 Church St., New Kensington.

A free light lunch of soup and a sandwich will be served, and fellowship and singing will be afterward.


Toy drive to aid local children’s charity

A toy drive to benefit Christopher’s Light children’s charity will continue through Thursday.

New, unwrapped toys for children in need 12 and younger can be dropped off at Apollo Memorial Library and Fox’s Pizza, both in Apollo; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vandergrift Presbyterian Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church, all in Vandergrift; Allegheny Township S&T Bank; and Dollar General in North Apollo.

Christopher’s Light is a offers clothing, support and educational services to children in Armstrong, Indiana, and Westmoreland counties.

Dec. 21: The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek, 142 Kerr Road, will host a winter solstice celebration at 6 p.m. at the center. Friday : Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will sell tickets for a lottery ticket raffle from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and Dec. 15 and 16 in the Carlisle Corner of the hospital cafeteria, 1301 Carlisle St. Cost: $1 each, cash only. Two winners will each receive a sealed package of 100 $1 Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off tickets. The drawing will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Proceeds benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.
