Local volunteer fire companies to escort Santa on Saturday

In preparation for his trip around the world on Christmas Eve, Santa Claus will ride through several Valley communities on Saturday with local volunteer fire companies.

Social distancing will be observed at all events. Visits are planned in the following areas:

Cheswick: 10 a.m. For more details, visit Cheswick Volunteer Fire Department on Facebook.

North Apollo: Santa will begin his trip with the borough firemen at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Leonard Avenue, and visit the following streets: 4:45 p.m., Wemple; 5 p.m., Center; 5:15 p.m., Robbins; 5:30 p.m., Cochran; 5:45 p.m., Luxemburg; 6 p.m., North Ridge; 6:15 p.m., 16th; 6:30 p.m., Wilson; 6:45 p.m., Moore; 7 p.m., Stoops Court; 7:15 p.m., Allison; 7:30 p.m., Pegtown; 7:45, the plaza; 8 p.m., Acheson; and 8:15 p.m., the fire station.

Rural Ridge, Indiana Township: 10 a.m. Santa will not get off the truck and treats will be passed out.

Washington Township: Santa will leave the fire hall between 4 and 4:30 p.m. and head north to the Paulton area, then travel south, ending at Wellington Estates. No treats will be passed out. Weather permitting.


New Kensington-Arnold SD to distribute grab-and-go meals

New Kensington-Arnold School District is distributing grab-and-go meals for students from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Valley High School and Roy Hunt Elementary School.

Students with last names that begin with the letters A through M should come on Mondays and students with last names that begin with the letters N through Z should come Wednesdays.

A holiday meal will be distributed Monday and Wednesday. For questions, contact Kayla at 724-335-4401, ext. 1035 or kwozniak@nkasd.com.  


Monthly outreach canceled by Building Block of Natrona

The free Veggies for All and Cosmetics Closet planned for Saturday by Building Block of Natrona is canceled this month due to a possible exposure to covid-19 by some of the volunteers.

The next event is planned for Jan. 16.

Kiski Township 

Dec. 31: Kiski Township Volunteer Fire Company is selling 2021 lottery calendars to benefit the company building fund. Cost: $30. Details: 724-478-4210

Leechburg

Today: A New Path Al-Anon Family Group, a free, confidential program for anyone whose life has been affected by someone else’s drinking, will meet at 7 p.m. in First United Methodist Church, 251 Main St. Face masks and social distancing required.

Lower Burrell

Friday: Lower Burrell American Legion will sell takeout food from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the post, 1100 Wildlife Lodge Road. The featured item will be a fish sandwich. Pickup customers should use the guest entrance in the banquet hall. Walk-ins welcome. Orders: 724-339-9417, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Parks

Today: Parks Township Sportmen’s Club will have its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the club, 1111 Shipman Road. New members welcome. Details: 724-845-2390 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Springdale Township

Today: Springdale Township Commissioners will conduct a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. at the township building, 100 Plate Drive, to consider the 2021 proposed budget. The public is encouraged to attend online at Zoom.us. Access information: springdaletwp.us/events.html

Tarentum

Saturday: A Dollar Breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to noon at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St. Everyone welcome. Cost: $1. The church Clothing Closet will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Details: 724-224-9220

Vandergrift  

Through Dec. 30: Vandergrift Public Library, 128C Washington Ave., is holding a holiday book sale. Cost: $3 per bag; used puzzles and audio books, $1. Details: 724-568-2212

Washington Township
