Blue Christmas service planned Sunday

Center Church in Fawn will host a Blue Christmas service for anyone who finds the holidays a difficult time at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1575 Donnellville Road.

The service will include prayer, reflection and hope for those mourning the death of a loved one, struggling financially, lonely or suffering from addiction, illness or estrangement. Everyone is welcome.


Office volunteers needed at Tarentum church

Central Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, is looking for volunteers to help out in the church office, 305 Allegheny St.

Shifts are flexible and last two to three hours on weekdays, depending on your availability. Tasks are simple and no experience is required.

Vandergrift library closed for repairs

Vandergrift Public Library will be closed through the end of the month so that work can be done on the building’s plaster walls.

Due dates for borrowed items are extended until the reopening date that will be announced in January. E-books and audio books are available through the Libby app. Patrons are welcome to visit Peoples Library in Lower Burrell and New Kensington, and the Murrysville and Delmont libraries.


Reunion

Burrell High School Class of 1990 will have a gathering from 6 to 11 p.m. Dec. 28 at P & M Pizza, 1609 Fifth Ave., Arnold.


Thank yous

West Deer American Legion would like to thank Rep. Jeremy Schaffer for his help and support to receive a $2,500 grant from P O M of Pennsylvania LLC. Special thanks to P O M of Pa. for their support and donation.

Brackenridge

Today: Members of the American Legion will gather at 5 p.m. at the post to go Christmas caroling. The group will stop at Dalton’s Edge between 6 and 6:30 p.m. and continue through the lower half of the borough.

Chicora 

Monday : Beckley Jones, 5 is collecting blankets and gift bags for patients in the oncology department at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, East Franklin. Donations can be taken to Chicora Alliance Church, 310 E Slippery Rock St. by Dec. 22. Donations will be delivered to the hospital on Dec. 23.

Harrison   

Today: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Jan. 17: Tri-County Trout Club is accepting table reservations for its annual sport show and flea market planned at Patterson Hall at Guardian Angels Parish, 800 Montana Ave. Vendors must sell new, used or collectable fishing, hunting, camping or sports items. Leechburg   

Saturday: A Christmas bake sale will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Holy Innocents Church, 366 Third St. Pre-ordered trays can be picked up and soup, hot dogs, haluski and baked goods will be sold. Dine in or takeout.

Saturday: The Clothing Closet at First Lutheran Church, 358 Main St., will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. All items are 20 cents each. Please bring a bag. Donations welcome.

Lower Burrell

Saturday: A luncheon bingo will be at 1 p.m. at the Moose, 499 Reimer St. Doors open at 11 a.m. Plan to arrive by 12:15 p.m. Admission: $20, includes lunch, 15 games that win $20 each; four specials that win $30 each; and a $100 must-go jackpot. Details: 724-335-4131.

Saturday: A free buffet breakfast with Santa will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the American Legion, 1100 Wildlife Lodge Road. Menu: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, pancakes, waffles and orange juice. Beverages will be sold. Public welcome.

Saturday: Grace Community Presbyterian Church will host a free Christmas party for children 10 and younger from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 2751 Grant St. The theme will be “Polar Express” and activities will include crafts, cookie decorating, coloring, the Christmas story and an opportunity to visit with Santa. Hot chocolate will be served.

Saturday: The Veterans of Foreign Wars will feature the G6 band from 7 to 10 p.m. at the post. Members and three guests welcome.

Saturday: A breakfast with Santa will be from 10 a.m. to noon at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 3084 Leechburg Road. Menu: pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee and tea, $3. There will be photo ops with Santa, children’s crafts, activities and gift bags.

Through Dec. 31: The works of members of the Allegheny Valley League of Artists will be on display during operating hours at Peoples Library, 3052 Wachter Ave. Details: 724-339-1021.

North Apollo 

Saturday: North Apollo Volunteer Fire Department will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast with Santa from 7 to 11 a.m. at the firehall, 311 16th St. Menu: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, pancakes, French toast, sausage gravy & biscuits, fruit and drinks. Cost: $12; 10 and younger, $6.

Parks Township 

Today: Parks Township Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7 p.m. in the firehall, 1119 Dalmation Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Sunday: Parks Township Sportsman’s Club will have a country music jam night from 5 to 8 p.m. at the club, 1111 Shipman Road. Bring your favorite stringed instrument and sing along. Refreshments available. Public welcome. Details: 724-845-2390.

Plum   

Through Dec. 25: Allegheny County Parks Department is sponsoring a holiday food drive for local food banks. Non-perishables can be taken from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays to the Four Seasons Lodge in Boyce Park.

Saxonburg

Today: St. Luke Lutheran Church will offer a prayer service for those experiencing grief and loss, “Comfort at Christmas,” at 7 p.m. at the church, 310 W. Main St. The service will include scripture readings, music and candle lighting. A reception will be afterward.

Tarentum 

Saturday: The Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The monthly dollar breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to noon. Menu: pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice. Details: 724-224-9220.

Saturday: Bethel AME Church will have its $1 spaghetti dinner from noon to 3 p.m. at the church, 250 Western Ave. Haluski soup will be sold for $4 and cranberry orange breads for $5 each.

Washington Township   

Today: Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 4078 Route 66. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The kitchen will open and card sales start at 6 p.m. Free coffee. Players must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult.
