Training for tax counseling offered

AARP Tax Aide is recruiting volunteers for the upcoming tax preparation season.

Tax Aide volunteers assist taxpayers with filing their federal, state and local taxes at no charge. Sites are located at senior centers, libraries, churches and the officers of state representatives in the Alle-Kiski Valley, such as New Kensington, Lower Burrell, Brackenridge, Vandergrift, Apollo and Springdale.

Training will be in December at St. Margaret Mary Church, Lower Burrell. If you think you might be interested in becoming a volunteer, call Diana Smith at 412-216-6937 or email dimariesmith@comcast.net.


Local artists to host exhibit at Penn State New Kensington

Members of the East Suburban Artists League will display their work through Dec. 27 in the Penn State New Kensington Art Gallery, Upper Burrell.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5 p.m. weekends, except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The exhibit will include works in all types of media, including paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastels, photography, drawings in ink and pencil, fine crafts in fiber and wood and mixed media.

A free meet and greet reception and party with the artists will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the gallery.

Leechburg

Wednesday: The genealogy group at Leechburg Area Museum and Historical Society will meet from 10 a.m. to noon at the museum, 118 First St. All experience levels welcome.

Plum

Dec. 12: Peter Drew and Rebekah Mirenzi will perform a free concert at 6:30 p.m. at Plum Community Library, 445 Center New Texas Road. Reservations required. Reservations: 412-798-7323 or plumlibrary.org
