Winners named in Tarentum holiday light contest

Tarentum Recreation Board has announced the winners of this year’s Home & Business Holiday Light Decorating Contest.

They are:

Home:

• first place, Jack and Kelli Wise, West 11th Avenue.

• second place, Tom Tyborowski and Glenn Marsh, East Eighth Avenue.

• third place, Heidi Torgent, Conwell Street.

Business:

• first place, Manos Gallery, 320 E. Fifth Ave.

• second place, Lehman Flower Shop, 208 Corbet St.

• third place, Merle Norman/ Olivia Grace & Co. Boutique, 300 Corbet St.

Apollo

Today: The Yarn Good Time needle arts group at Apollo Memorial Library will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. at the library, 219 N. Pennsylvania Ave. to knit, crochet, embroider or cross stitch. All ages and skill levels welcome. Details: 724-478-4214.

Dec. 31: Tickets are on sale for a New Year’s Eve bingo set for 8 p.m. at Apollo Hose Company No. 2, 325 N. Fourth St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Cost: $25 before Dec. 22; $30 at the door, includes hot dog and sauerkraut. Full kitchen will be available. Gilpin 

Today: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7:15 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

Harrison

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50/50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Wednesday : Community Library of Allegheny Valley will offer a step-by-step acrylic painting workshop for students 12 to 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the library, 1522 Broadview Blvd. The subject will be a winter gnome. Fee: $5. Paid reservation deadline: Wednesday. Reservations: alleghenyvalleylibrary.org.

Leechburg

Today: A New Path Al-Anon Family Group, a free, confidential program for anyone whose life has been affected by someone else’s drinking, will meet at 7 p.m. online for the winter months. Details: tinyurl.com/yp6hd8zn.

Lower Burrell

Saturday/Sunday: Grace Community Presbyterian Church, 2751 Grant St., will have a Christmas Eve candlelight carol service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. A Christmas Day worship service will be at 10 a.m. Sunday. Details: 724-339-9661.

New Kensington

Friday through Jan. 2: Knead Community Café will be closed for the holidays. Lunch service will resume Jan. 3.

Saturday : Upper Burrell Volunteer Fire Department and Vigilant Hose Company of Portvue are selling tickets for a $15,000 Christmas Cash Giveaway. Cost: $20 per ticket, includes eight numbers. Washington Township
