Community safety night planned in Kiski Township

A community safety night with Damsel in Distress will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 5 at Apollo Free Methodist Church, 1027 Route 56, Kiski Township.

The program will focus on situational awareness, city safety and learning how to prepare, protect and prevent harmful situations. Reservations are required. For reservations, call 724-478-3025.


Apollo Meals on Wheels seeking volunteers

Apollo Area Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers to help prepare meals and deliver meals to clients.

Hours for kitchen help are 7 to 9 a.m. and drivers 9 to 11 a.m., both Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. For details, call the office at 724-478-3117.

Dec. 26 to Jan. 6: St. James Parish is selling tickets for a 12-day lottery giveaway. Cost: $10, includes two numbers. The winning numbers will be the first officially drawn 7 p.m. Pa. Apollo/East Vandergrift

Jan. 9: Our Lady, Queen of Peace and St. James Parishes will sponsor a bus trip to Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. The bus will leave the St. James Church parking lot at 9 a.m. and will stay at the casino for five hours. Cost: $35, includes gratuity for the driver and $10 in free play. Participants must have a state-issued ID to receive the free play and must be at least 21. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-478-4958.

Dec. 31: Vandergrift Public Library is conducting a 100,000 penny collection challenge through the end of the year. Bring your pennies to the library, 128C Washington Ave., or TinyCause or Champion’s Crusaiders Rescue. Funds raised will be split between the three organizations.
