Free weekly program for veterans offered in Lower Burrell
The Lower Burrell Veterans of Foreign Wars hosts a free program for all veterans from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays at the post, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road.
Activities Friday will include a meet-and-greet, brain games, health education, lunch and entertainment. The program is sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
HOPE Center accepting donations
The Alle-Kiski HOPE Center is seeking accepting donations for the clients it serves. The center provides free and confidential services to survivors of domestic violence and their families.
Items in need include new socks, underwear, slippers and pajamas in all adult and children’s sizes. Donations are accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the administration office, 500 E. Today: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who are not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Today: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean clothing in all sizes is needed. No housewares or bedding please due to lack of space. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.
Leechburg
Jan. 13: The Leechburg 175th Anniversary Committee will host a night at the races at the Marconi Club, 135 River Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m. and races will start at 7. Cost: $20, includes a horse, food and soft drinks; food and soft drinks only, $10. Donations for a basket raffle, desserts and cases of pop are welcome. Drop off donations at Leechburg Public Library. Deadline to purchase a ticket with a horse is Jan. 4. Must be 21 to attend. Proceeds will be used to fund the 2025 celebration Details: 724-236-0080.

Thursday: The diaper pantry at St. Mark Lutheran Church will distribute free diapers from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church, 600 Pittsburgh St. Recipients must register in advance. First-time recipients must provide their own ID, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card. Distributions will be the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Thursday: Lower Valley Community Food Bank will distribute food from 1 to 3 p.m. at the rear entrance of the Springdale borough building, 325 School St. Do not arrive before 12:45 p.m. Anyone in need of food who lives in Springdale, Springdale Township, Cheswick, Harmar and the sections of Indiana Township and West Deer with a zip code of 15024 is welcome. New recipients can register Thursday.
Tarentum
