Free rides available to medical appointments

Wesley Family Services offers free transportation for those 18 and older from their homes to medical facilities within New Kensington, Arnold, Lower Burrell and parts of Vandergrift.

Rides are available from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except holidays. One-way and round-trip rides are available.

Apollo/East Vandergrift

Jan. 8: St. James and Our Lady, Queen of Peace parishes will sponsor a bus trip to Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from the St. James Church parking lot and stay at the casino for five hours. Cost: $30, includes $20 free play. State-issued photo ID required to receive free play. Brackenridge

Sunday: Sons of the American Legion will serve an all-you-can-eat community breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon in the American Legion, 845 E. First Ave. Cost: $10; younger than 10, $6.

Harrison  

Tuesday: The Veterans of Foreign Wars will host a New Years Eve celebration from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Music will be by the Cool Change Band. Public welcome. Cost: $25, includes two drinks and food. Cash bar. Tickets: 724-904-7649.

Leechburg

Monday: Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company will host bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 268 Canal St. Doors open at 5 p.m. The kitchen will be open.

Tuesday: Leechburg Area Community Association will sponsor a New Year’s Eve party from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Marconi Club Mirror Room, 135 River Ave. Cost: $20, includes champagne toast at midnight and food. There will be a cash bar, prize drawing, basket raffle and DJ. BYO snacks. Designated drivers receive free soft drinks, water and iced tea. New Kensington

Monday: Peoples Library will host “Construction Crew,” an hour of play with building supplies, at 1 p.m. at the library, 880 Barnes St. Details: 724-339-1021.

Springdale

Jan. 6: The Geraldine Yanni Science program at Springdale Free Public Library will offer a free program, “Anatomy of the Earth,” with Mad Science of Pittsburgh at 6 p.m. at the library, 331 School St. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-274-9729.

Tarentum

Today: The Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Details: 724-224-9220.

Sunday and Tuesday: Alcoholics Anonymous will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St. An opportunity for silent prayer will be at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday: Tarentum Elks will host a New Year’s Eve party at the lodge, 219 E. Sixth Ave. Doors open at 7 p.m. The Americana Band will be featured and there will be a food buffet, open bar and champagne toast at midnight. Advance tickets required; no tickets will be sold at the door. Cost: $30. Public welcome. Tickets: stop in at the lodge and see the bar technician.
