Christmas concerts planned by Kiski Valley Community Band

The Kiski Valley Community Band will perform five benefit concerts in the Alle-Kiski Valley this Christmas season.

The schedule and beneficiaries include:

• 3 p.m., Saturday, First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 214 N. Pennsylvania Ave, Apollo Donations will be given to the church.

• 3 p.m., Sunday, St. Paul Lutheran Church, 409 Sarver Road., Buffalo Township. Donations will be accepted for Cabot Food Bank.

• 7:30 p.m., Dec. 13, Christ Lutheran Church, 5530 Old Logans Ferry Road, Murrysville. The collection will benefit the Kiski Valley and Plum food banks.

• 2 p.m., Dec. 14, Casino Theater, 145 Lincoln Ave., Vandergrift. Donations will be accepted for the Victorian Vandergrift Museum and Historical Society.

• 7 p.m., Dec. 16, Marconi Club. Donations will be given to the Community Providing Alternatives To Hunger (PATH) program at the Leechburg Food Bank that sends food home with children each weekend.

Selections will include holiday favorites, such as “Sleigh Ride” and “A Christmas Festival,” both by Leroy Anderson, and an audience sing-along.

Choral concert planned Saturday in New Kensington

The Academy Singers will present a program of Christmas and holiday music at 3 p.m. Saturday at United Presbyterian Church of New Kensington, 601 Fifth Ave.

Members are from Delmont, Export, Lower Burrell, New Kensington, Hyde Park and Vandergrift.

Bethel Township

Brackenridge

East Vandergrift

Saturday: Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish is selling tickets for a St. Nicholas Day lottery raffle. Winning numbers will be the first drawn Pennsylvania Daily Pick 3 numbers at 1:30 and 7 p.m. on St. Nicholas Day, Dec. 6. Winners will each receive $1,000 and a $100 gift certificate to Naser Foods. Saturday: St. Mary Mother of God Church will sponsor a diaper pantry for those in need from 10 a.m. to noon on the lower level of the church Family Community Center, 407 Freeport Road. Harrison

Leechburg   

Today: The free genealogy group at Leechburg Area Museum and Historical Society will meet from 10 a.m. to noon at the museum, 118 First St. The group meets on the first and third Thursday of each month. Bring a laptop or tablet. Basic computer skills required. Details: Judy, 724-681-9154.

Through Dec. 25: Allegheny County Parks Department is sponsoring a holiday food drive for local food banks. Non-perishables can be taken from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays to the Four Seasons Lodge in Boyce Park.

Springdale  

Today: Lower Valley Community Food Bank will distribute food from 1 to 3 p.m. from the rear entrance of the Springdale borough building, 325 School St. Do not arrive before 12:45 p.m. Anyone in need of food who lives in Springdale, Springdale Township, Cheswick, Harmar and the sections of Indiana Township and West Deer with a zip code of 15024 is welcome. Saturday: Poke Run Presbyterian Church, 1091 Poke Run Church Road, will sponsor a breakfast with Santa from 8 to 11 a.m. at the church. Cost: $8; 4 to 10, $4; 3 and younger, free; photos with Santa, $2. There will also be a Santa store with miniature poinsettias, ornaments, decorations and gifts. West Deer

Friday and Saturday: A Christmas bazaar will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Bull Creek Presbyterian Church, 224 Tarentum Culmerville Road. There will be a bake sale with apple dumplings and hard tack candy and the kitchen will be open.

Saturday: A pancake breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at East Union Community Center, 292 East Union Road. There will photo ops, a story corner and activities. Cost: $7; 3 to 10, $3, 2 and younger, free.

Winfield
