Five Forces to host annual veterans event

Five Forces will host its annual Christmas for Veterans event Dec. 14 at the School House Hall, 171 Thorn St., Oklahoma Borough.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6. There will be a DJ, a basket raffle and giveaways.

All veterans and current members of the military are welcome. Veterans must show DD214 paperwork, current military ID or proper discharge paperwork. Tickets are free for veterans and current military. Guest tickets are $20 each.

Burrell High School Concert Band to present winter concert

The Burrell High School Concert Band will perform their winter concert at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school auditorium, Puckety Church Road, Lower Burrell.

The public is welcome.


Santa needs help: You can ‘adopt’ senior for Christmas

Concordia Lutheran Ministries has again opened its Adopt-A-Resident Program to the community.

Individuals, businesses or congregations may call the facility of their choice to “adopt” a resident and give him or her Christmas gifts. Gift suggestions include a sweat suit, door wreath, stamps and stationery, digital clocks with large numbers, sugar-free candy, slippers and slipper socks and throws or blankets.

Springdale to welcome Santa on Monday

Santa will travel through Springdale on Monday with the borough volunteer fire company and pass out treats.

Times and stops include: 6 p.m., Lincoln and Porter; 6:10 p.m., Garfield and Oak; 6:20 p.m., Railroad and Center; 6:30 p.m., Hoeveler and Lincoln; 6:40 p.m., Butler and Willow; 6:50 p.m., James and Willow; 7 p.m., Marion and James; 7:10 p.m., Ridge and Maple; 7:20 p.m., Colfax and Rosslyn; 7:30 p.m., Colfax and Chestnut; 7:40 p.m., Porter and Elwyn; 7:50 p.m., Duquesne Court; and 8 p.m. at the fire station.


Christmas tree sale to benefit Scout troop

Boy Scout Troop 551 of Hyde Park is conducting its annual Christmas tree sale at Stanford Home Center, 1173 Route 356, Allegheny Township.

Hours are 4 to 8 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 21, or until the trees are all sold. Types of trees available include Frasier fir, concolor fir, Canaan fir, grand fir, Norway spruce, blue spruce, Siberian spruce and white pine. Prices begin at $25.

Proceeds will benefit Scouting activities.
