Dinner to benefit Children’s Hospital

The annual Chow-Chow Dinner to benefit Children’s Hospital Free Care Fund will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Springdale Veterans Association, 1151 Pittsburgh St.

Sponsored by the Allegheny Valley office of Howard Hanna, tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. For tickets or details, call 724-339-4000, ext. 214.


Toy drive to benefit children

Children’s charity Christopher’s Light is conducting a Christmas toy drive for children living in Westmoreland, Armstrong and Indiana counties through the end of November.

Monthly community dinner planned in New Kensington

Knead Community Café, New Kensington, will host its monthly Breaking Bread dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the café, 1011 Barnes St. Arnold Furniture is this month’s sponsor.

There is no cost, but donations will be accepted. Volunteers are needed to help with preparing and serving the dinner. For details, email Wendy at wen3672@comcast.net.

Historical society to screen film

The Leechburg Area Museum and Historical Society will have its annual public meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the basement of First Lutheran Church, 358 Main St., Leechburg.

Officers and new board members will be elected. The program will be a screening of a recently-digitized film that includes footage of the opening of the Leechburg Bridge in 1935.

Refreshments will be served. The public is welcome.
