Night at the Races planned by AKV Back the Blue
AKV Back the Blue will host a night at the races Saturday at Lower Burrell Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road.
Doors open at 4 p.m. and races will begin at 5. Tickets are $20 and include a derby hat contest for men and women, a grazing table and a chance for a door prize. There will be a DJ, chuck-a-luck and cash bar and the kitchen will be open. Horses will be available for $20 each. Tables can be reserved for $25.

Soup cook-off planned by Brackenridge American Legion Auxiliary
Brackenridge American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor a soup cook-off Saturday at the post, 845 First Ave.
Bring your best soup in a roaster or stock pot by 12:30 p.m., and your recipe if you wish to share it. Sampling and judging will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. by all adults in attendance and winners will be announced at 3 p.m. Soup will be sold as a fundraiser for the auxiliary, takeout or dine in and prizes will be awarded.

DL Middle School students to perform ‘School House Rock Live Jr.’
Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at Deer Lakes Middle School will present “School House Rock Live Jr.“ at 7 p.m. today, 6:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday in the high school auditorium, 163 East Union Road, West Deer.
Tickets will be $10 at the door.
Animal Protectors plans evening of chocolate
Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley will host “Chocolate Paws,” an evening of chocolate, from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 22 at River Forest Country Club, Allegheny Township.
There will be appetizers, music, a basket auction and 50-50 raffle.
