Clothing drive to continue until March 1

Lori Hummel of Howard Hanna Real Estate, Oakmont, is sponsoring a winter coat drive through March 1.

New or gently-used adult and children’s winter coats, gloves, mittens and hats can be dropped off in the blue bin at her home, 21 Oak Glen Drive, Oakmont.

Items will be given to the Rosedale Food Pantry’s Clothing Closet that serves over 700 families in Oakmont, Verona, Plum and Penn Hills.

Bowling event to benefit Highlands baseball program

“Bowling for Baseball,” a fundraiser to benefit the Highlands High School freshman, junior varsity and varsity baseball teams, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. March 15 at Wildlife Lanes, Wildlife Lodge Road, Lower Burrell.

Check-in will begin at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per person and includes unlimited bowling with five or six bowlers per lane, shoe rental and a 12-cut pizza and pitcher of pop per lane. Bowlers of all ages are welcome. There will be a 50/50 raffle, basket auction and bake sale.

Sunday: Arnold No. 2 Auxiliary and Arnold Fireman’s Band will host a luncheon bingo at 1:30 p.m. in the Arnold Social Center, 1702 Fifth Ave. Doors open at noon. Cost: $5, includes light lunch and one lapboard. Players must be at least 12 years old.

Harrison

Sunday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary will serve a spaghetti/ravioli dinner from 2 to 6 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane, Natrona Heights. Desserts available by donation. Thursday: The Young Parents Support Group at Allegheny Family Network North will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the center, 1600 Pacific Ave., suite 10, Natrona Heights. Parents of all ages are welcome to listen to guest speaker Pam Morrow-Wolfe, a loan officer from First Commonwealth Bank Mortgage, discuss building and repairing credit and the home-buying process. North Apollo

Armstrong County

Conservation group to have fruit tree, seedling sale

Armstrong Conservation District will conduct its annual fruit tree and seedling sale through March 13.

Fruit varieties include: apple, cherry, pear, peach and plum. Trees range from 4 to 6 feet in height, are bare rooted and packed in peat moss. Cost is $20; and $25 for cherry trees. Tree guards are available at $2 each.

Other varieties available include: American Beech, American Elderberry, American Red Pine, Black Gum, Concolor Fir, Northern Bayberry, Norway Spruce, Old Fashioned Lilac, Osage Orange, Red Mulberry, White Flowering Dogwood and White Oak. All are sold in bundles of 25. Cost is $20 per bundle, except for Black Gum and American Elderberry, which are $25. Prices include tax.

Distribution will be from 8 to 11 a.m. April 18 at Lenape Technical School, 2215 Chaplin Ave., Manor Township. For an order form, visit armstrongcd.org or email jjschaub@co.armstrong.pa.us. Orders and payments are due March 13. Proceeds will benefit county environmental projects and activities.

Butler County

Food safety training course offered

The Butler County Penn State Extension Office, 101 Motor Pool Way, Butler, will offer a ServSafe Food Safety Management training course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 3 and 9 a.m. to noon March 10 at the office. The test will be administered at noon March 10.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, licensed food establishments must employ a supervisory employee who has successfully completed a food safety training class. This class will help to satisfy that requirement.

Cost is $185 and includes the book, exam and instructional materials.
