Hoagie fundraiser to benefit victims of Jan. 17 house fire

Fat Cat’s Subs in Cheswick is conducting a hoagie fundraiser to benefit Kayla Fischerkeller and Ryan Brittingham of Cheswick who lost their home Jan. 17 in a fire.

Subs cost $8 and varieties available include Italian, ham and cheese and turkey and provolone cheese.

Orders are being accepted at the sub shop, 1401 Freeport Road, Cheswick; the Polish Club in Harwick, Springdale Township; the Krivan Club in Springdale; Mar Mac Tire, the Hunter and Fisherman Club and Tel Star Bar, all in New Kensington; at Zoll by Genny Hepler and at the Springdale High Rise by Gwen Allen.

Orders are pre-paid, cash only and the deadline to order is Wednesday. Pick-up will be Feb. 25.

Building Block offers afterschool program for Highlands students

The Building Block of Natrona offers a free afterschool program for Highlands School District students in kindergarten through 12th grade from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays at the offices of Allegheny Family Network North, 1600 Pacific Ave., Harrison.

AVH Auxiliary to hold jewelry and accessory sale

Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host a Jewels, Bags and More sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the hospital lobby, 1301 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights.

Merchandise will include women’s fashions, vests, scarves, shawls, jewelry and accessories. Cash, credit or checks will be accepted.

Proceeds will benefit auxiliary-sponsored hospital projects.


Free diapers available at Highlands Family Center

Highlands Family Center is partnering with the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank to provide free diapers to local families.

Free diapers will be distributed from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at the center, 415 E. Fourth Ave., Tarentum.

Bring your child or your child’s birth certificate. There is a limit of one distribution per child per month.

Donations to the effort are also being accepted. Diapers can be dropped off at the center during business hours. For details, call the center at 724-224-9006.

Lower Burrell

Tuesday: The Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Sewing Guild will meet at 7 p.m. on the upper level of Puckety United Presbyterian Church, 1009 Puckety Church Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. There will be a DJ, black lights, strip tickets and Minute to Win It games. Cost: $30 includes buffet, drinks and bingo supplies. Only 250 tickets will be sold.
