Garden center accepting applications for college scholarship

The Greensburg Garden Center is accepting applications for the 2022 Katherine Mabis McKenna Scholarship.

The award is $1,500. Applicants must live in Westmoreland County or its bordering counties and have completed one year at an accredited college or university by May 31 and be pursuing a two-or four-year degree in botany, horticulture, forestry, landscape architecture or related field.

Armstrong Conservation District sell fruit trees and seedlings

Armstrong Conservation District will conduct its annual fruit tree and seedling sale through March 4.

Fruit varieties available include apple, apricot, cherry, pear, peach and plum. Trees range from 4 to 6 feet in height, are bare rooted and packed in peat moss. Cost is $20 per tree. Tree guards are available at $2 each.

Other varieties available at $30 are American Elderberry, American Common Persimmon, Arrowwood Virbunum and Paw Paw. Austrian Pine, Chestnut Oak, Colorado Blue Spruce, Douglas Fir, Norway Spruce, Paw Paw, Ponderosa Pine, Red Mulberry, Silky Dogwood and Wild Black Cherry are $20 per bundle. All evergreen seedlings, which are sold in bundles of 25, are 5 to 20 inches in size, depending on variety.

Distribution will be from 9 a.m. to noon April 9 at Lenape Technical School, 2215 Chaplin Ave., Manor Township. Proceeds will benefit county environmental projects and activities.

Harrison 

Today: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Masks required. Clean spring and summer clothing in all sizes is needed. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Today: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open to anyone in need from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Pull into the center parking lot and food will be placed into your vehicle. Those who are not yet registered should come from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50/50 raffle and final game jackpot.
