Early Childhood Fair planned by Highlands School District

Highlands School District will host a Kindergarten and Pre-K Counts Registration and Early Childhood Fair from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Highlands Early Childhood Center, 1060 Atlantic Ave., Brackenridge.

The fair will feature information about the kindergarten and pre-kindergarten programs and food, caricatures, a book fair and crafts for children.

Families will receive registration packets at the fair for incoming students. Students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 to register for kindergarten. Children must be 3 years old on or before Sept. 1 to register for Pre-K Counts.


Garden center accepting applications for college scholarship

Greensburg Garden Center is accepting applications for the 2023 Katherine Mabis McKenna Scholarship.

Applicants must live in Westmoreland County or its bordering counties and have completed one year at an accredited college or university pursuing a two-or four-year degree in botany, horticulture, forestry, landscape architecture or a related field by May 31.

Monthly outreach in Harrison canceled Saturday

The Veggies For All and Cosmetic Closet outreach planned Saturday by the Building Block of Natrona is canceled due to a family emergency.

The normal schedule will resume next month at 1 p.m. March 18 at the Knights of Columbus, 28 Garfield St., Natrona, Harrison.

Allegheny Township

Today: Alle-Kiski Day Quilters and Sewers will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Allegheny Township municipal building, 136 Community Building Road. Bring your project. No dues or fees. Saturday: Apollo United Presbyterian Church, 401 First St., will offer a story time, craft and small snack for children at 11 a.m. on the front steps of the church, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the event will be indoors.

May 20: Apollo Events Committee is accepting reservations from vendors and food trucks for its annual May Daze celebration set for noon to 6 p.m. in Apollo Plaza. Cost: vendors, $25; food trucks, $50. Flea market spaces are available for $10. Rain date: May 21.

Arnold

Saturday: The Tomb, 1821 Fifth Ave., will serve a free brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. GriefShare will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Sunday: Arnold Fireman’s Band will host a luncheon bingo at 1:30 p.m. in the Arnold Social Center, 1702 Fifth Ave. Doors open at noon. Cost: $6, includes light lunch and one lapboard. Players must be at least 12 years old.

Brackenridge

Feb. 25: The American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor a soup cook-off from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the post, 845 First Ave. Bring your best soup in a slow cooker or roaster by 12:30 p.m., and your recipe if you wish to share it. Soup will be sold as a fundraiser for the auxiliary, takeout or dine in. Prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m. to the top three soups, as voted by people sampling. Buffalo Township

Feb. 26 and March 5: The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania will sponsor a pancake and maple program at 10 a.m. at Buffalo Creek Nature Park, 154 Monroe Road. Attend either session. Learn the process of making maple syrup and enjoy a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, fruit and maple syrup. Cost: $15; $12 for Audubon Society members. Reservations required. East Vandergrift

March 2: St. Mary Mother of God Church will offer the free ALPHA program at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays for 12 weeks beginning March 2 at the church, 608 High St. The program will explore life, faith and meaning. Harrison 

Today: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50/50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Lower Burrell

New Kensington

Springdale

Tarentum
