Children’s bereavement workshop offered online

Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, will sponsor a free virtual youth bereavement care seminar from 9:30 to 11 a.m. March 4 online on Zoom.

The event, “The Music in Me,” will be a music-themed workshop for youngsters who are younger than 21 who have experienced the death of a loved one.

Free class offered by Butler National Alliance on Mental Illness

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Butler County will offer its free Family-To-Family educational course from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays March 1 to April 19 at the office, Holly Pointe Building, 220 S. Main St., Butler.

The course is for family members, significant others and friends of people who have a mental health condition. Topics will include current treatments and therapies, finding local support services, handling crises, solving problems and managing your own stress.

• St. James Church, Apollo, will have distribution of ashes Wednesday at a 7:30 a.m. communion service and a 6:30 p.m. Mass at the church, 109 Owens View Ave. Stations of the Cross will be prayed at 7 p.m. Fridays through March 31 at the church.

• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, East Vandergrift, will have Mass with distribution of Ashes at noon Wednesday at the church, 420 McKinley Ave.

• United Presbyterian Church of Freeport, 411 High St., will have a covered dish dinner at 6 p.m. Ash Wednesday at the church. Feel free to arrive later if necessary. A service with distribution of ashes will be at about 6:45 p.m.

• Vandergrift First United Methodist Church will have an Ash Wednesday service at noon with communion and distribution of ashes at the church, 134 Custer Ave.

• Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church, both in Leechburg, will have a drive-thru distribution of ashes from 7 to 9 a.m. Ash Wednesday in the Cross Roads Church parking lot on First Street and a walk-up distribution from 10 a.m. to noon at Coco Coffeehouse, 163 Market St. All denominations welcome.

Feb. 25: The American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor a soup cook-off from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the post, 845 First Ave. Bring your best soup in a slow cooker or roaster by 12:30 p.m., and your recipe if you wish to share it. Soup will be sold as a fundraiser for the auxiliary, takeout or dine in. Prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m. to the top three soups, as voted by people sampling. Buffalo Township

Feb. 26 and March 5: The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania will sponsor a pancake and maple program at 10 a.m. at Buffalo Creek Nature Park, 154 Monroe Road. Attend either session. March 2: St. Mary Mother of God Church will offer the free ALPHA program at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays for 12 weeks beginning March 2 at the church, 608 High St. The program will explore life, faith and meaning.
